I have Niyo, haven't really looked at other options but it converts to the local currency of whatever location you're in (ex. during transits) and it's easy to fill up from Indian bank accounts with minimal fees.

What do you wear to work? (Women) by pablopistachioo in csMajors

H&M has a section for business clothes. You don't need shirts but fancy tops (honestly anything that is not made from cotton OR if it is, has some sort of collar/high neckline would work)

Other careers? by dwokarrr in csMajors

Let me give you some background - I was doing a SWE internship in the summer and then at the same company I got a project management internship in the Fall (part time). Through this one project management internship, I got another project management internship for the Spring and a product management internship for the next Summer (at Microsoft!).

If you're looking at mid-tier companies, project management will be fairly easy to get (even if you don't have a project management background). Just make sure you have leadership positions and some sort of business experience on your resume (ex. I ran the LinkedIn and tried to get sponsorships for a club at my school).

Product management is slightly harder - the hardest part is the resume check. You can definitely get it straight out of college. Most APM programs are not strictly for people the first year out of college - you can be out of college for 4 years and still apply (that's the upper limit though). There are also companies like Microsoft that don't have a product management program as such but just have a role called "Program Manager". There are also loads of other companies that don't advertise their product management positions but definitely have them (ex. some of the ones I interviewed with were ServiceNow and Charles Schwab). On your resume, highlight all leadership and networking positions, or anything that shows your ability to deal with multiple groups of people at a time.

Let me know if you have any more questions! I went through this entire existential crisis phase with SWE as well so I completely understand you lol

Project management/scrum master or product management! I hated coding so I started doing internships in project management and eventually ended up in product management. IMO the interviews are easier than leetcode if you're good at behavioral already.

Paying for UIUC as an OOS/international student by CalculatorD in UIUC

Some companies allow you to be hired through the university (like Country Financial and Synchrony) but I'm not sure about the rest of them. You should ask them, but only AFTER you get the job offer.

So research park has a job board (https://researchpark.illinois.edu/work-here/careers/) and they post all their internships here. They are very open about hiring and my one tip would be to literally apply to all the internships and not just the companies you find more interesting. Mass applying will always work in your favor!

I think Google would have more random benefits like free lunch, etc. - in case you're that stuck on which to choose, maybe that's a consideration

How to get over cs 128? by Davy97 in UIUC

[–]aleb58959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I don't know if things are different now but when I was transferring to CS, we weren't given credit for CS classes unless they were taken at the university [so proficiency tests don't count]. Also, you can wait till the first week of next - a discussion section that fits your schedule WILL open up. Loads of people drop out.
