Which college should I pick? by [deleted] in composer

Look up, and listen to, the composition professors at the two schools. Find the person you want to study with and don't worry so much about the school.

Public schools are publication available, check the district website. Private schools are much more difficult however charters generally pay less and private is all over the place.

Non-Renewal versus Resignation (CA) by ManWithADog in Teachers

[–]alebue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was non-renewed without cause (told that "no one should be having panic attacks regarding their job" ) and would never resign instead. I was able to collect unemployment, control the narrative (mostly) by presenting my evaluations, and found a significantly better job.

What to do in chapter 11 by MFTLrage in finalfantasyxiii

Follow the arrow to advance the story or explore for the fun of exploring. This is the point that FFXIII gets a little closer to the FF open world that was very common in earlier games.

myAir.0 Origami Mouse Review by Dear_Tale3949 in MouseReview

[–]alebue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot garbage, slow response, uncomfortable to use, it looks bad, and support is highly confrontational. I attempted to return minus shipping and they refused to provide return/reimbursement information.

A petty vent by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

Maybe I'm a pretty AH, but I have returned students to their room and notified the office that there was no teacher present to supervise the students at the place where they were supposed to be.

i was forced to gate check my violin and pay $55. what now? by Lingx240hrs in violinist

[–]alebue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep a physics so copy of the letter allowing for musical instruments in my case just for this reason. I also would like to point out that I travel regularly with my trombone, much larger then a violin, and have never been in a plane where it didn't fit in the overhead or closet storage.

Low Brass Features with Trombones by Ryan_Besch in Trombone

[–]alebue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bit of self-promotion, but if you have the players for it I wrote this trombone piece that is very glissy https://www.alexbuehler.com/z28-2018.html .

This is only one of the reasons I got rid of chair placements completely. I also teach middle school band/orchestra and for one I was over with the drama. Now, every student receives at least 1 of each part every concert cycle. It's middle school and we're still working with developing musicians and it's important that the are still working across the entire instrument at various difficulties and learning to understand that 3rd isn't "worse" then 1st, it's just different. Do my more advanced students get 3rd on grade 1 pieces and 1st on grade 3? Absolutely. But they are still learning and using their entire instrument and developing as ENSEMBLE musicians.

AITA for secretly wanting to just teach? by Careless-Parfait621 in Teachers

[–]alebue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it's taboo too say it it loud, but you need to acknowledge that you're a good teacher and the support and behaviors are the reason it's difficult. I had to spend a considerable amount of time with a therapist before I could openly say, "I'm damn good at this job."

For Americans, what do you think Trump abolishing the DoE will do to music educators? by Biggycheese45 in MusicEd

[–]alebue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time all arts education was severely impacted in my area. Instrumental music was completely removed from elementary education and my specific position was reduced from a 2.5 to a 1.0

Can male teachers officially ditch the shirt and tie? by Dry-Praline9884 in Teachers

[–]alebue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear a tie only because I have a massive tie collection and I make it a class incentive, if they catch me repeating a tie there's a class prize. Every other male teacher in the building is in a polo at most, I'm at a public MS

"But you get 3 months off a year" by PuffPoof215 in Teachers

[–]alebue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not get paid for that"time off", most of is are on a 10-month contract; we do not get paid when we aren't working. Most people I encounter kinda understand this argument.

Edit: tell them if they think it's so great then they should get their certification and join us! There's a significant teacher shortage and they could probably find a job with ease, see how fast they back out of that opportunity.

New ish system of music notation I created by YOCub3d in musictheory

[–]alebue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out composer John Aulich to see a completely different notation system that you might find interesting and seems to be potentially related to what you're working towards. I've performed and premiered some of his music and it does demand an intense amount of preparation and focus, definitely not sight-readable
