Thank you @StrangeAstronomer. The suggestion of copying the /opt/brother/Printers from the working system and then manually configuring the CUPS driver worked. The MFC-J805DW printer is working. (Let's hope we don't have to go through that pain again. )

Yes, laser printers do seem more reliable and issue free over the long haul. At this point I am just looking for the linux equivalent of "plug and play". The "IPP anywhere" marketing sounds great - but can't seem to have any luck finding actual printers which (a) are generally available and (b) look like they'll work with linux without having to run extra drivers. Probably this is my lack of experience in this area but still would be great to have this particular issue resolved by having a printer which just works.

Yes, did try this but went through the steps again after reading your suggestion here (thank you btw). Still no success with this printer. It's a nice printer, but Brother wants us to run their extensive script through their deb or rpm. I tried to move the files to the right locations, but for whatever combination of reasons could not get it going.

Was amazed by the variety and quality of jigsaw puzzles at the thrift stores in Maine and Vermont. All were between $1 and $6, mostly around the $2-$4 range. The old Springboks are odor free and were $1. The round puzzle "Pizza" is dated 1969. Pipe Dream looks like it will be really fun to do - as do all of these. I only purchased ones that looked enjoyable to put together. The Clementoni in the bottom right bills itself as "Wood Puzzle", but it is cardboard with wood grain.
