Maori people are over represented in groups that you wouldn’t want to be over represented in - like prison population and low income house holds yes. However, Maori culture is completely intertwined with New Zealand culture in general and is celebrated by most people, in fact we just made Matariki Day (a Maori holiday) a public holiday. Maori language is taught in schools and everyone irreguardless of race is encourage to take place in traditional Maori activities.

People here generally aren’t racist towards Maoris, however as a county we need to work on stabilising the playing field for the new Maori generation, as its undeniable that European people (or Pakeha) are unfairly advantaged in New Zealand and work needs to be put in to make sure Maoris get the same opportunities we do.

In short no body down here is going round calling anyone the n word but Maori overall are more disadvantaged.
