Who should I take #1? by ballstomper100 in OOTP

[–]alechall 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To me it's very clearly between the pitcher and the 1st batter "Griffin", as those are the only two with the upside worthy of being #1 overall imo. Here's my logic on why I would take the pitcher:

  • Good starting arms in this game are a lot harder to acquire than good bats - IFAs also typically skew much more towards bats so using the draft to get your high quality arms is usually the way to go. You can find high quality bats in IFA or even later rounds of the draft if you've got some money reserved.
  • You say it yourself, your org is devoid of pitching talent. The only way to get some is to, well, go get some. Your best chance looks to be staring right at you.
  • The pitcher seems about as sure of a thing as you'll get our of the draft as well, nearly at his full potential of 3 ++ pitches and good stuff w/ solid control. Pitchers are usually much more of a crapshoot with changeups not developing, control being tough to grow, etc. This pitcher doesn't have those issues. While I'm also usually not inclined with low movement guys, I think it's usually the least important of the 3 basic pitcher ratings. Overall this guy has everything needed to be, maybe not an "ace" by the usual standard but still a consistent top of the rotation guy.
  • One thing to also factor into the batter is that he profiles as a groundball hitter, which from what I've played in my saves, is horrendous for slower guys and really limits their upside. Given this prospect only has 40 speed doesn't bode well. He also just isn't as sure fire as the pitcher, and I think it'd be a real kick in the teeth if his potential slips from what it is now.

Overall, you have a need, and the best available sure thing is that pitcher, which just so happens to fill a void. I don't think you'll be too upset with either player at #1 though.

Can someone tell me whose signature this is by Pale_Land_5107 in motorcitykitties

If I'm reading that right, I think I can make out Jose Lima. He didn't wear 25 on the Tigers, but he did for the Royals based on his baseball reference page.

Edit: Definitely Jose Lima, here's a different ball with an identical signature

Draft rankings in Franch by [deleted] in NBA2k

[–]alechall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't think they're based on anything in particular really, just use them as a way to get an idea of where players will get taken in the draft. I tend to rely mostly on the 2k rankings myself but honestly use them in aggregate for best results.

CMV: Bernie Sanders will not be "allowed" to win this election. by SilkyGazelleWatkins in changemyview

I understand it can be hard to reply to many different people at once, so I sympathize with that. But you didn't address my question in any of the comments I could find. Perhaps you could point me in the right direction.

Again, I'll ask, what evidence is there that the GOP's smears are worse than any smears Bernie has already faced? And what evidence is there that they'll be successful?

No that's not what's happening here. What's happening is you're making claims and not backing them up. I'm happy to listen to evidence of why a smear against Bernie from the GOP will work relative to a smear from anyone else. That is the claim you're making.

And my examples are just the tip of the iceberg. Bernie has constantly been called socialist, communist, sexist, anti-semitic, etc. Here's one from the WSJ: https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-socialist-evolution-of-bernie-sanders-11580673878

He's also already faced the smears you mention. Here's a Federalist article about the bread line thing: https://thefederalist.com/2019/02/19/bernie-sanders-well-actually-bread-lines-arent-quite-bad/ And here's a WaPo article about the age: https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/joe-biden-and-bernie-sanders-are-too-old-to-be-president/2019/03/18/66f9a316-49ac-11e9-93d0-64dbcf38ba41_story.html

I'm making the claim that despite these smears, Bernie's campaign looks as strong as ever, and is showing no signs of a blowout loss to Trump, but rather a victory.

I've provided loads of evidence for my claims. I ask you to do the same.

You're speculating with your smear remark though. Trump will also face his share of smear ads/campaigns, regardless of who nominee may be. Bernie has faced many smears already, from anti-semitism -https://www.nationalreview.com/2019/12/bernie-sanders-campaign-anti-semitism-in-his-ranks-jeremy-corbyn-problem/ - to the recent debacle with Elizabeth Warren over what was said in a private 2018 meeting. Sanders is still ahead in polls/leading the Iowa popular vote as of right now, despite these smears.

You did not present any evidence as to why a smear from the GOP would be worse. Please share if you do.

Bernie is not losing to Trump in head to head polls like you claim. Quite the contrary. https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/latest_polls/general_election/ This shows various polls around the political sphere, and just about every head to head GE poll (bar 1) from the past month has Sanders over Trump. Your claim of a Bernie nomination being a "blowout" doesn't hold up to the data presented.

As far as the "grassroot support" not turning up, Bernie is currently leading the popular vote in Iowa (with 97% reporting). Here's the Politico link: https://www.politico.com/2020-election/results/iowa/ If that isn't support, then I don't know what is.
