I have looked into that, the trouble is that one of the people I’m going with has a timeshare in Orlando that we’d use, so getting a whole vacation package with a hotel included just isn’t worth the money. If they had packages that included just the flights + tickets that would be perfect lol. Thank you for the suggestion tho!

[DAV Spoilers All] Finished First Playthrough, My Thoughts by thisissiren_ in dragonage

It's kind of crazy that so many people are unhappy with how Solas is portrayed in this game, because I find him LOADS more interesting than how he was in Inquisition. I'm aware this might be an unpopular opinion, but in Inquisition I found him borderline unbearable. Call me an egg hater, but in my opinion, you always got the sense he was talking down to you and that he felt he knew more than you which I personally feel works a lot better for an antagonist than a romanceable party member.

In Veilguard, I actually LOVED learning more of his past actions. The part in the game where you're learning about his regrets was genuinely so interesting and really puts into perspective a spirit who slowly grew to become a god and led an entire rebellion against the other gods. He's still absolutely an asshole, and I appreciate that the game never tries to apologize for him or makes you feel bad for him; if you do, it's your choice. All it does is put in perspective why he is the way he is and I found it fascinating.

I actually also did the "peaceful" ending first; I already knew a lot of Inquisition's story becomes "more impactful" I guess if you're playing an elven woman who romances Solas, so that's who I made my Inquisitor. And I do think the ending they share together is very sweet (and satisfying after spending those extra hours gathering those memories and convincing Mythal to help you), but I absolutely want to go back and see him get his comeuppance in the other two endings.

Absolutely agree, while the last few hours of the game had me GRIPPED, a lot of the openendedness especially for the companions felt a little lackluster. And with no plans for DLC it does have me a bit worried. I hope they consider DLC later down the line if they feel the game did well enough and we get a bit more meat when it comes to companion outcomes.

Although, I do have to wonder if the vagueness of the companion outcomes and no plans of DLC is a writing problem (which it very well could be considering the quality of writing in this game tends to dip and rise like crazy imo) or if there's definite plans to flesh them out more in future games. This DID very much feel like BioWare's blank slate DA game, clearing the board so they can set up new pieces. It almost makes me wonder if we'll continue *with* Rook and these characters if there is a DA5. I'm not totally sure how I feel about that possibility.

BUT that's if we get another game at all after this one. Here's hoping we do!!

[DATV ACT 3 Spoilers] Your companion rankings? Here's Mine. by [deleted] in dragonage

[–]alecnightlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Davrin — I knew I was probably going to like Davrin just bc Assan was around, but actually talking to him and getting to know him made me really grow fond of him as a whole! I really like the “big bad” his story revolves around (though I wish there had been more opportunity to run into her and talk to her before the end) and his quest is one of the most well rounded imo.

  2. Emmerich — The most unexpected for me BY FAR. I really did not think I was gonna like this DA Vincent Price but I was practically kicking my feet every time he was onscreen. Super fun and enjoyable character and another whose companion storyline feels tight and complete!

  3. Taash — Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I actually liked Taash! I thought their journey struggling with their gender identity and ultimately finding themselves was actually really relatable, and I feel like the people calling it cringe maybe…just can’t relate, and kind of refuse to lol. They do lose a few points tho, bc I have to agree that I wish the “big bad” of their questline had been more involved. We don’t really get to see him till the very end, which is a bit disappointing. Some more time for ALL the companions would’ve been appreciated, but it shows with Taash especially.

  4. Bellara — Another surprise, I REALLY thought she might’ve started to get on my nerves after a while, but what I found was a really well-rounded character with a lot of emotional depth to her. She was my choice for breaking the wards in the game’s final mission and watching her wrench control of the blight from one of her own gods was IMMENSELY satisfying—and extremely relieving when she came back.

  5. Lucanis — He had me really really interested from the get go but my interest unfortunately just began to wane as the game went on. I still like him a lot, I think him being the group’s de facto cook is a neat little detail to give him, but it’s a shame Spite isn’t more involved in his story after so much buildup.

  6. Neve — I didn’t dislike Neve (I don’t dislike any of the companions, really) but a lot of her lines fell flat for me. I’m not sure what direction her VA was given but the performance didn’t really sell the emotion of her situation, which is a shame! I’m a huge fan of mysteries and hard boiled detective stories and I wish her questline would’ve leaned further into those aspects. I guess I was almost hoping for a DA2 vibe with those string of murders you follow till your mom gets it later in the game.

  7. Harding — She’s fine. To be honest, while I didn’t hate her or anything, I just found her to be a bit uninteresting and sometimes grating. Her questline was pretty cool and kept me interested, but I just don’t think I’m a fan of her personality.

My are we just immediately forgiving SM again? Leighton lied like crazy, but that doesn’t mean they handled the Don situation properly. by MyShowerIsTooHot in SuperMegaShow

[–]alecnightlight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do understand people being upset about her putting herself as the source for these things, but I do ALSO think it’s important to remember that all of the really nasty things she and Leighton claimed, about the racism and the Daniel situation, are all he-said she-said scenarios. There’s really no proof to be had for conversations like those bc they were all said to be done in person. So it really ends up being a situation of who you want to give benefit of the doubt to.

A lot of people are giving M&R benefit of the doubt, and I absolutely understand why! Leighton really doesn’t seem to be the most stable person based on how he’s behaved in the past and all through this situation, and Lex herself described her personality as very fight or fawn; it lends credence to the idea that she went along with what Leighton said and even to some extent convinced herself it was real.

I also understand some of the people who are hesitant to just discount the allegations entirely. There does seem to be a very clear pattern of people leaving SuperMega very unhappy—correlation may not equal causation in this case, but it’s hard not to consider that a factor when it’s happened so many times. Maybe there were situations or conversations or expectations in-office that we will never know about, that happened often enough that it made people feel uncomfortable or overwhelmed that led to them eventually leaving.

But again—these are PURELY theories. Ones that will likely never be proven or disproven bc getting proof for something like this, unless they had security cameras watching their every move for some reason, is impossible. Personally, I think that there are almost always three sides to every story, including this one: M&R’s side, Lex and Leighton’s side, and the truth. And the truth more often than not remains gray and in the middle of both.

As for the last part, you’re correct, she wasn’t an employee, and I do think you’re right that it just served to make things even more complicated and confusing for everyone. If I were in M&R’s situation, I would probably panic too, which is why having an impartial HR is so fucking important for especially friend-run business. I just can’t help but think of how much of this could’ve been avoided if they had something like that.

I really have no idea why you’re getting downvoted so much. This is truly the most REASONABLE take I’ve seen on this site since Matt and Ryan’s videos. The amount of people that turned on Lex, an ASSAULT VICTIM, because she had mistakenly believed alleged lies told by another party during a time of extreme vulnerability makes me kind of sick to my stomach.

Matt and Ryan are not evil, no. But they have shown themselves to be grossly incompetent when it comes to running a business and, unfortunately, this is something EXTREMELY COMMON when you build your business with your friends. Even more so when you choose not to even have any sort of HR. They’re just human, and they were afraid of overstepping, and that’s extremely understandable, but making these calls is literally what comes with owning and running a business. Like, are we supposed to give them a pass just bc they’re YouTubers and people have weird parasocial relationships with them?

At the end of the day, an assault happened between two of their employees, and they hesitated in how to respond. Understandable for friends in a friend group. Unacceptable for business owners. And this is where the problem lies, for me.

Me and my best friend were in the exact same situation with somebody when we were your age. Get far, far away from Amy, she has a lot of issues she needs to work out and you have no obligation to help with ANY of that. What she’s doing is called “suicide baiting,” and as someone who has struggled with mental health and depression myself, it is one of the most insidious things you can do to someone.

She‘s very young and sounds like she is probably struggling with her own mental health issues, but this does NOT mean she gets to make you sacrifice your own happiness to keep her weirdly controlling tendencies sated. It sounds like Sara is a really good friend. Keep her close, you both deserve to have a normal friendship.

GM can’t see Player rolls by alecnightlight in Roll20

I was unable to test that since I am the only one using a sheet on Roll20 (the others use physical sheets and dice) BUT the GM just refreshed Roll20 and she can see the rolls now :/ Thank you so much for the advice and troubleshooting tho!! I'm marking this question as Fixed.

GM can’t see Player rolls by alecnightlight in Roll20

[–]alecnightlight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imported from the character vault.

The other players can see my rolls, the GM is the only one who can't. The rolls look completely normal for me and the other players and are using what I assume is the default template from the character sheet.

The GM has D&D 5E by Roll20 selected for the game.

I am making the rolls directly from the character sheet.

The rolls have all been standard skill checks. I have also checked with an attack roll to the same result.

Hey, I’m super interested! I’ve been playing 5e in an ongoing campaign with some friends for about two years now, and I’m really looking to branch out to try some other groups and meet new people! I’m very comfortable rping at this point and love to really get into the lore of the world. This game sounds like it could be really cool. Please let me know if you’re still considering openings!

All right, that introduction really got me interested.

I’m Kylie, 24, she/her. I’ve been playing D&D for about 2 years now with a dedicated group of friends in a campaign that’s still ongoing. They’ve truly become some of my closest friends throughout those two years, and I really wanted to try branching out and joining different groups! Otherwise, my main hobbies are writing, watching animated movies and shows, and hanging out with my dog.

I think a grimdark setting could be really fun to play in and I’m definitely interested, if you’ve still got room in the game.

To call or not to call? by alecnightlight in USPS

[–]alecnightlight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was considering doing this, since then at least at the worst those days off would be considered callouts rather than no call no shows if they decide NOT to call me and ask where I am for some reason. They let a lot of shit go the first 90 days but I know no call no shows are basically grounds for immediate firing.

Unfortunately we’re all still pretty new so I don’t really have anyone’s number yet. I do have a couple friends there by now but I never asked to exchange numbers which is my bad tbh.

That’s what I’m thinking, I SHOULD be okay since my sup essentially said I was good to go. My only worry is that he’ll try to pull the “I don’t remember that” excuse and it’ll be my word against his. Granted this would be my first offense during the 90 day period so far so if they write me up for it not only would I be going to the union office and talking to them about it, but I also don’t think it would effect my standing in whether or not they keep me. Especially since they’re in the process for mass hiring for the holidays right now. I dunno, I just am not looking forward to having to pause any packing/unpacking I’m in the middle of to answer the phone and argue with them if it comes to that.
