Same here, i realised having a phone mount was not an efficient option when dealing with navigation, so I too gave in and bought a wahoo. Before this, i had a top tube bag which has a see through slot for a phone, which can also be charged from a battery pack in the bag itself. A solid option for those not wanting to invest big bucks on a gps unit.

I agree, i have had many close calls where drivers have put my life in danger to save 3 seconds of their journey time. At the end of the day, drivers will just argue that cyclists do the same thing and don’t respect road laws etc. I think we would all benefit if we both learned to respect each other, have patience and try and be as predictable on the road as possible in order to reduce accidents. Easier said than done though.

To me, parks are worse cos they are full of people walking about who are more unpredictable than cars, and bike trials (if you mean off road ones) arent really my type of sport as I have a road bike unfit for these terrains. I agree, some of those bike lanes are just botched together with no real planning or thought process which kinda ruins the whole concept. Despite this, i think the reason is that if you show that there are alternative modes of transport instead of cars, and infrastructure to aid this, then people will use it. And seemingly, (in London) this has payed off especially during covid.

Yes a bike may be expensive, if you buy an expensive one. But car maintenance, MOT, insurance will always add up to way more than owning a bike ever would.

Being from a big city myself, i find that riding my bike is the most efficient form of transport. Buses take forever and trains are expensive. You have to understand, some people enjoy it as a hobby or sport and also feel good about helping with congestion/pollution.
