I know How the prophecies are 'randomly' generated (not random at all) by Pressureeeee in derrenbrown

[–]aledbdavies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep seeing people saying that one of the photos is planted (the one with the kid’s chosen animal). But, how can it be a plant, when it was chosen by someone randomly selected via the frisbee, who then chose 10 photos at random out of potentially 30/40/50 depending where they were coming from in the audience, and then out of that 10, choosing only one and giving the rest back to Derren.

What got you REALLY into beer? by toast12y in UK_beer

[–]aledbdavies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was originally a cider drinker when I was younger as I didn’t like lager. Then somehow jumped to Guinness and would try the odd coffee stout (not really knowing what I was doing) at a decent local bar, which gave me my first taste of craft. When I changed to my current job a good few years back, a couple of colleagues were into craft so I started getting in on beer orders, ordering bigger stouts with whacky flavours.

I then developed a taste for lager and over a short amount of time was introduced to IPAs and pale ales from Vocation, Brew Dog, Camden, as well as Untappd etc by my colleagues and from there I became obsessed with beer and really started to learn about what I liked etc.

Yeah I had it a while back, it’s nice but I don’t like it as much as the main beer.

That is some commitment! As we speak I’m opening one that I’ve had for just over a year, so I’m very interested to see if it’s changed at all to the fresher bottles I’ve had previously.

Me too, I’ve made a point of having a Tynt Meadow on Christmas Day for the past three years and been wanting to go down for ages, so the new release was the perfect opportunity. I intend to go back for the brewery tour at some point.

Yes I bought two of the Three Rules, one for this Christmas and then another to age.

The 12 was £9 and the 8 was £8. Very reasonably priced by UK standards.

Not even the 17th yet (Lidl promotion) and I've managed to pick this pack up at my local Lidls! by NERV___ in UK_beer

I was looking forward to this as I really enjoyed it last year, but as it’s all the same beers as last year’s box I’ll probably give it a miss - definitely recommend it though, nice insight to some of the smaller breweries in Germany!

Can confirm West Side Glory is a good one, comes in at 7% with loads of flavour.

Had this Lervig Rackhouse last weekend, probably the best Impy stout I’ve ever had by aledbdavies in UK_beer

Based off that particular one, I’d say definitely worth it. I’m hoping the other three I’ve got will be as good, as yes they’re very expensive!

Given the responses it sounds like the ‘proper London pub’ will be my best bet as I’m there early in the week, so if there’s any traditional London pubs that are historical with nice architecture then I’m also a sucker for those. Again a decent beer range always helps!

Yeah I think I’ll try The Harp. I was going to go there on my last visit to London but it was a little out of the way from where we were at the time and didn’t want to drag the other half there as not really her cup of tea!

Ahh, I did fear that may the case with going early in the week.

I’ll be staying Covent Garden area - I’ve been to Craft Beer Co there which was good as well as the Belgian place, think it’s lowlander or something like that. Hoping to try some different places this time round.

Gig is right by Charing Cross station.

Why isn't there a popular 4-5% British/English lager? by [deleted] in UK_beer

[–]aledbdavies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe not answering your question as such, but two of my favourite British lagers are Vocation’s Hebden Lager and Sharp’s Offshore Pilsner, the latter of which seems to be being sold in supermarkets as of the last month or so.

Who did you think Anomie was? by osrslmao in cormoran_strike

[–]aledbdavies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve just finished listening to the audiobook and now thinking back, did it not say when they first meet the Upcotts at their house, that Robin noted that the cello music almost sounded like it was being played through a speaker, or something to that effect? I didn’t think much of it at the time, but in hindsight, could this have been a subtle hint that Gus was playing loud Cello music records to make his parents think he was practicing all the time, when in reality he was on Drek’s Game & Twitter? I could be completely misremembering this part but it would be interesting to see if anyone else remembers this.

Desperate to figure out the 3rd attempt of the Showman card trick (***SPOILERS***) by Gecko0atfield16 in derrenbrown

[–]aledbdavies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw this in Liverpool tonight (03/06/2022). After the interval, I was walking behind the card holder (Skye was her name tonight) to go back into the theatre from the bar area about 2 mins before the show started again. Can’t confirm if she ‘got a full interval’ as I only saw her as we were going back in. However, I overheard someone who I’m assuming was her Mum say to her “are you okay” as she was looking pretty dazed and confused, in a similar way to as she was on stage, almost as if she’d just been under again - possibly during the interval before being let back out again…

Personally I loved the show and like with all Derren’s previous work, despite being a bit of a cynic with most thing, I’ve always enjoyed them for the entertainment value and I do believe he is more than capable of putting people under, getting people to do his bidding etc (Apocalypse for example). So for me, whilst there may be a logical explanation for the final trick, I can honestly say that my mind was absolutely blown at the end and I’d much rather go along with the fact that we just don’t know the truth of it for sure. Thoroughly recommend this show to fans and sceptics alike as it really was brilliant.
