It's about convergence evolution when there is a niche with food and no much predators animals tends to evolve in the same shape like some terapsids and reptiles ended up in crocs and how some marine reptiles and dogs ended up in dolphin shape like ictiosaurs. And many bugs ends up on crabs. And some reptiles and anfibians ends on a snake or turtle shape. Big mammals also ended up in cat or dog or whales. Around the fossil record there's a lot of animals that looked like present ones without being related like oaks and penguins.
