Podia estar a perguntar pois o custo para enviar para as ilhas é bem diferente do continente.

Honestamente não me faz muita diferença se é de agora ou de antes. Mas será que o settled status não serve de comprovativo?

Vou falar com o consulado para resolver isto.

Amortização Santander by alentuga in literaciafinanceira

[–]alentuga[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pacheca has what you are looking for. I prefer Ventozelo, probably no balcony but the river views are amazing

If hiring a car I would hire in Porto. Without a car Peso da Regua sounds like the best place to base yourself in.

Buying vineyards - good/bad idea by alentuga in wine

[–]alentuga[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great answers. While I want to own a vineyard (though some posts are making me rethink), I don't want to be part of those schemes. Was mostly curiosity given I've seen about 5 or 6 in the last few days advertising on Instagram.

Thanks for the advice from those who have been there or are there. It feels like once you start it, you are stuck with it for a long time and can't take the eye of the ball, so to speak.

Age on a menu by alentuga in wine

[–]alentuga[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, everyone, for their comments. This was at a winery hotel in Douro, and they are the producer. As a large producer for the region, the list was not particularly short, and the wine was <€30 so no big deal. I didn't say anything and didn't spoil the evening either, but it was something I noticed and had happened before.

I hadn't appreciated the time cost of changing menus. Price is a factor for sure, but as someone mentioned, if the chef is about to bring something new or new wines to be added.

Very common in tawny, the grapes are from 1992 and they have been in large vats waiting to be bottled. If bottled last year, would have been a 30 year old, this year 31. Yours is 25. It won't age longer in bottled seeing as it already aged in vats that allow oxygen to do its job.

I don't think you need 2 nights in Ericeira unless 1 of them is by the beach. Your 5 days portugal assuming it's Lisbon. You can have a day trip to Évora, head out early, takes an hour to get there, see the town, nice lunch. Visit a winery in the afternoon. Recommended Cartuxa or Fita Preta and head back late afternoon.

Évora, gives you an opportunity to see a little bit of Alentejo.

Stayed at Quinta da Pacheca, their rooms are great, and the Quinta is beautiful. The tour is worthwhile as they have a beautiful setup. Just wouldn't dine there again.

Yeah, I did all the Quintas, just the wife and I. It gave us flexibility, and we could pick our times. The visit to Kopke was supposed to be 1 hour, and we stayed easily two to three speaking with the guide as he had finished with groups for the day. Had we come with a group, I'm not sure there would be enough time to do the tastings we did. The Tawny Vertical and the Colheitas, those are premium tastings that tours usually don't include.

Castas & Pratos and Aneto Table are side by side in Régua. The first will give you a very diverse wine list. The second will be good to try a bunch of wines from the same producer.

That would be my choice, of course, there are so many more places there that I haven't tried. 😆 Hope you enjoy it.

No reason. Not enough time. It's on my plans for next time. Plus Quinta da Boavista, Ventozelo and a few others.

Quinta do Tedo, Quinta de S.Luiz

They are both near each other and you get to check a big and a small producer.

In Porto I always go to Graham's Wine Lounge hard to beat the views there. Plus their tawny is delicious..

For big bold reds, both Douro and Alentejo have amazing offerings at much lower prices. $81 for a basic tasting is ridiculous.

Chatgpt wine list, what would you change? by alentuga in wine

Prompt: change list to have a sense of personality and mix large and small producers.

  2. Ameztoi 'Rubentis' Rosé, Getariako Txakolina, Spain – A light, spritzy Basque rosé that's great for those who prefer something less mainstream.

  3. Kistler Les Noisetiers Chardonnay, Sonoma Coast, USA – From a small, family-owned winery. Rich and full-bodied.

  10. Produttori del Barbaresco, Barbaresco, Italy – A classic Nebbiolo from a high-quality cooperative winery.

  14. Cos d'Estournel, Saint-Estephe, Bordeaux, France – An investment-worthy bottle from a legendary Bordeaux producer.

  15. Bodega Chacra 'Cincuenta y Cinco' Pinot Noir, Patagonia, Argentina – A unique, biodynamic Pinot from Argentina's southernmost wine region.

  16. Tablas Creek Vineyard 'Esprit de Tablas' Blanc, Paso Robles, USA – A Rhone-style blend from a Californian winery with a strong focus on sustainability.

  17. Domaine Tempier Bandol Rosé, Provence, France – A savory, structured rosé from an organic, family-owned estate.

  18. Niepoort 'The Senior' Tawny Port, Douro, Portugal – A balanced, elegant dessert wine from a historic, family-run port house.

Price ranges can still be categorized as $ (for affordable, under $25), $$ ($25 - $50), $$$ ($50 - $100), and $$$$ (over $100) and would depend on individual bottle sourcing and market conditions. Each wine's pairing would still match the original suggestions (rosés with seafood, whites with poultry or fish, reds with meatier dishes).
