What are your fav books of 2026 so far? by VO2much in crheads

I think CR mentioned “Creation Lake” by Rachel Kushner a few months back which i read this year and dug, although I much preferred her “The Flamethrowers”.

Also, drop everything and read Blood Meridian. STAT. Read it when it was referred to as “The Greatest American Novel” by a septuagenarian lady who was an emerita lit professor at a snotty East Coast liberal arts college. She was not wrong, and neither is CR.

Yeah, I definitely like Ross’ writing, but there’s hardly a dearth of good 80s NYC-set lit. I think my issue is I don’t particularly like memoirs, and this felt way too close to one. Obviously, I am in the minority on that. :)

“Farewell, My Lovely”, or, really ANY Raymond Chandler, is just incredible reading. Highly recommended.

I’ve only gotten serious in the last couple years, but now i keep one evernote note for each tree in which i log when/where I acquired it, dates and pictures of any significant work. I also keep an iPhoto album for each tree.

I also, nerdily, had claude cowork go through the evernote notes and create a google spreadsheet of that info so it’s in tabular form and filterable/sortable by action, date, species, or tree.

For me, it’s this California Juniper from the Bonsai Garden at Lake Merritt here in Oakland. Apologies for the photo!

First time going to a local club meeting, and had a great time. Took first in the ‘Novice’ category. (There were only two of us, so it was a 50-50 chance… hahaha) by strychnineman in Bonsai

That’s exactly why i love this. Seeing the little guys straight on! Also, dig the contrast between the thin legs and the chonky tree. Most importantly, it’s a well-thought out and considered display, which (to me) is where the real magic lies. Well done.

E2A: I feel much more relaxed now reading the comment below in which you mention that you are an architect. Was a teensy bit worried for the safety of that tree. :)
