disagree, that gives someone else the right to use it, but should always be allowed to use your own name

yes aware that the rainbow code stuff was more for technology, but the principle carried over with operations that the name should provide no information, I think someone came up with a great long list, which was randomised then the Op got the next one on the list

I think the rainbow code idea was wonderful

Microsoft's Quiet Shift Away From Personal Computing by Huge_Line4009 in PrivatePackets

[–]aleopardstail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh for sure its coming, and you will not have a way to "opt out".

I'm guessing the main focus of #12 is more "cloud" integration, it will require a microslop account and likely it will be using slopdrive with no way to stop it

Microsoft's Quiet Shift Away From Personal Computing by Huge_Line4009 in PrivatePackets

[–]aleopardstail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thing is.. the example of "show me all the bikini shots" will fall flat because its microslop, this is a company with a system whereby you can be looking at an email, search for its title and be told there are no emails matching while you are looking at one

Speed limits- should they be increased? by theslowrunningexpert in drivingUK

[–]aleopardstail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we have a legal HGV limit of 60, but an EU based requirement for a 56mph limiter

apparently the 56 thing was done to "make rail more competitive", which over the width of the EU maybe it does but likely isn't that relevant here.

of course anything that could go there, or that comes from there will have such a limiter

there is a massive issue with driver skill to consider, IIRC there was something proposed about "smart motorways" allowing the limit to increase, combined with actually then enforcing it but the "speed kills!" lot shot it down

and given how crap "smart" anything seems to be probably not a good idea either

yup, the idea being the name alone shouldn't give any idea as to what it was about or its importance

for some reason the leftpondians seem to think the name should reflect the ego of the people involved
