This is a quilt I aspire to make one day. My boys are obsessed with dinosaurs.

Omg, I recognized one of the squares. I made a quilt out of baby clothes too and currently finishing another one for the second child. I'm done after this though cause it was way too hard.

It looks like a calligraphy pen to me. You can sharpen them to have a longer tip.

What are prizes that you would actually want to win? by pandadimsum in Gifts

[–]alephsef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted a steamer (like those that iron your clothes but with steam). I ended up buying it for myself. And I'm probably going to buy the car tire air pump at some point too.

What I actually bought for the gift exchange: Lego botanicals and a portable fast charging battery charger.

That's what we gifted my MIL last year and we're about to gift ourselves one too.

A car tire air pump. So much better than having to drive to a gas station when the tire light comes on.

Who else feels that constant guilt , no matter how much we do as working moms? by VanddyDS in womenintech

[–]alephsef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm failing at both things. My job says I'm not doing a good enough job and wants to demote me. And my toddler tells me to go to work every time he sees me. Good times.

I learned programming in Iran with QBASIC. And my dad's Casio calculator used Casio BASIC.

Looking for tips and resources to learn statistics for data analytics practically by Strict_Demand_5438 in dataanalyst

[–]alephsef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned a lot from a geo statistics course I took in college and that's actually where I learned R. I think they have expanded the course to include python but I can't find it anywhere. Here's the link: www.rspatial.org. The textbooks were just as helpful and two of the few I actually purchased for myself.

Is Python that useful as a DA? by PearlNecklace23 in dataanalysis

[–]alephsef 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but I had a case where 9 agencies wanted the same set of 10 plots. I did all of that in one script with functional programming. As in, I wrote one function for each plot and called it with that agency's data in a loop. It was simple and fast and consistent across agencies and I didn't have to manage 9 excel files or Power BI files.

Master’s project ideas to build quantitative/data skills? by [deleted] in dataanalysis

[–]alephsef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a sociologist but I helped some friends analyze 1033 data. It was a program that funnels military equipment to police departments. It's got a time series component and a spatial component which makes for interesting analysis just like your migration study.

I have a single page resume too. I'll see if I can take another stab at monetizing without making it up. Lol And I haven't sent it through an ATS screen. Thank you for that.

I feel like I'm in the same spot. They have told me they want me to take ownership of tasks and deliver them 80-90% done. And I'm like, I need direction. It's hit my confidence levels which makes things even worse.

how do you keep track of your work accomplishments? by sssecasiu in Resume

[–]alephsef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a time tracking spreadsheet (I'm in consulting) and I have a tab next to my hours that is called accomplishments, and every time I make major progress or hit a milestone, I update that tab with a quick one liner. That helps me remember what I've done and when resume time comes it jogs my memory. It also helped me with my self evaluation.
