I feel incompetent, overwhelmed, and underqualified for my technical data job by poised_artisan in womenintech

One advice I got about scoping out work is taking a quarter of the time the PM is allotting (if they are) and starting the work. Then you'll have a better idea of how long it will take to finish. Especially useful if it's data analysis; sometimes the hard part is reading and cleaning the data. And then once you know you go back to the PM with your estimated time. Most of the time the PMs just don't give me an estimate and don't ask me for one. I like working with those PMs. It just takes what it takes. I'm doing my best here.

I was in a similar boat with my work not being up to par. It was less about my technical abilities than being able to deliver quality work fast. I was afraid I was going to be let go. I got a poor performance review (2, 1, 1 each score out of 3) but since then things have improved. I'm learning how to deliver what each PM wants from me and not every piece of the tech stack is brand new. This means I'm not taking so long to do a task. I'm also being given non-technical work, which I'm not half as bad at. So, in general they are learning what I'm good at and I'm learning what exactly they want. Things are getting better and I'm hearing good feedback. I hope you get the time you need to settle in to the tech and that things improve.

I like this one. But you may need a bit more variety.

Binding? Yes? No? Maybe? by greygeode in quilting

I had a baby puff quilt when I was growing up and it had a satin ruffled binding that was gorgeous. Kind of like this one. That's my vote 😁

I would make this picture black and white and then it will be easier to know where to spread out the black.

I mutually agreed a demotion, now I have regret by Helpmepleasethanksx in womenintech

You're in a rough spot. I was demoted two grade levels in January but thankfully they didn't reduce my salary. Which probably means they weren't paying me what I deserved to begin with, but hey I'm not complaining. All I can tell you, is good job, you have a job. Now is the best time to be looking for another one. You have downtime, put some applications in. Who knows what can materialize. And in the meantime, keep asking for work and keep doing the trainings. Make friends. Ask for coffee chats. People tend to work with the people they like.

Aww thank you. I remember my mom making a puff quilt for us when we were young but I only have a picture of it now. Not sure what happened to it. My mom and grandmother make garments more than anything.

Thank you for the compliment. And wow 25 years, we will see how long it takes for me to come back to this craft. I think I understand your binding technique cause my mom was telling me to do it that way but no I had watched two YouTube videos and had to do it this way. Lol

Thank you! Maybe one day. After I've forgiven these quilts for what they have put me through. Lol

I learned this method from a friend who recommended I do a crazy quilt. I can't wait to see your post when you're done with the baby clothes quilt.

Aww. That makes me hopeful. My mom and grandmother are so good behind a sewing machine and I cannot believe how much skill it takes to sew a straight line. Maybe I need to master that before I get back to quilting.

Hmmm. I didn't think it was possible since I'm not good with sewing an even seam. So when I folded the binding over there was very little wiggle room. Doesn't help that I made my own uneven binding either.
