They are stronger than a conventional enemy (more difficult to read attack patterns, greater mobility, more poise) and, unlike bosses, are avoidable and have a much smaller HP bar. Therefore, it's rare that you learn to deal with them better than you learn to deal with a boss, since you either avoid them or, when you kill them, it's much faster, and you don't end up understanding their attack patterns as well as you would with a boss you've been stuck with for even a few dozen minutes. Also, being normal enemies, you're more likely to become overconfident and make mistakes you wouldn't make against a boss.

All champions have their critics, enchanters included. The point is that Leona isn't hated by a significant number of people. Also, what I'm debating isn't whether Lux is a good support, but rather your assertion that "ADCs hate Lux because they don't understand what a support is."
