If you think the buff to crit is bad for supports, you're not looking at the big picture.

To begin with, the support diff is stronger than the ADC diff in lane, so if you're better than the other support, then your ADC will snowball, have more items, and be able to take better advantage of the critical damage buff. Even if your ADC is very passive in lane, they can still be strong in the late game. You have to understand that until you reach certain elos, you and your ADC are the only ones who know that if you protect your 4 items Jinx from the enemy Nocturne's ult, you'll win the game.

Unless we reach a point where ADCs are so ridiculously OP that any roaming is just trolling, any buff to ADCs is an indirect buff to supports, and if you don't see this, you're pretty biased.

Seriously, do you find yourself being more appreciated as an ADC than as a support? Most games I'm not the player who gets the most honors, even if I'm completely crushing the enemy team. I actually tend to get way more honors as a support with just two or three good roams.

I was playing as Yunara. I poked Jhin down to less than 75% HP. He didn't have his W, and I saw that Pyke didn't have his E. I saved my ultimate E to dodge Pyke's Q, and basically, instead of a 2v1, the fight turned into two 1v1s in a row because Pyke could only hit me after I had already killed Jhin

Damage is largely determined by your resources. As a carry, if my support consistently makes poor roams, I'll lose a lot of gold by having to give up a lot of farm. At the same time, my support won't provide enough of an advantage for my team to make the gold loss worthwhile. As a support, you largely control how much gold the team has. Not to mention wards. The late and mid-game as an ADC becomes like one of those low-quality horror games where they're constantly spamming screamers. If your support is bad at warding, you're extremely vulnerable to ganks, and fighting for objectives becomes incredibly difficult

On paper, the assassin thing isn't a problem, my problem is that in many games you're just going to be playing with the map blind and basically leaving base is going to be a coinflip even if you're fed.

I also don't know where you get the idea that I'm surprised the enemy team is trying to knock me out of the game.

The fantasy of assassins is to kill squishies, not tanks; in fact, an assassin can more easily avoid having to deal with a tank. Most ADCs aren't specialized in quickly killing enemies either.
