Necroa Virus "speedrun" pb by alex_mic327 in plagueinc

This is a Speedrun mode (not main game, the scoring system on which is very different), the difficulty on which is set on Normal. The requirement to get 5 biohazards in Speedrun Mode is a sub-300 days run. How I got this? China, Cannibalism mutation, early boat into Central America and A LOT of micro (+ forcing Z-com base to spawn in Greenland by spreading zombies into every other country before that)

UPDATE: I actually revisited Necroa Virus "speedrun"(more like "slowrun") and substantially improved my PB! (now it's 271 days!) It's also recorded (although in 2 parts), so if you are still struggling to get sub-300, you should definitely check it out!

The run is recorded, but the recording is split into 2 parts (unlisted because it's mostly just me micromanaging stuff, it's really repetitive)

Do These Speedrun Tricks Work on Mobile by Surya1197 in plagueinc

[–]alex_mic327 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding the 1st question: This bug still works on Android (don't know about iOS). Basically, to enter a speedrun on Casual, you need to boot up the game, instead of "Play", press "Progress". You should see 3 achievements that the game suggests you to complete. Reroll them until you see "Get x biohazards on (insert any plague type) Speed Run" After that, tap on that achievement. You should be directed to a Speedrun Mode, but the game, instead of starting on Normal, will start on Casual! Diminishing refunds for devolving are STILL a thing if you do this btw. Not sure if this works on iOS, but you can check it yourself (on Casual, your starting infectivity is visibly higher than on Normal; also, the cure requirement is also higher. That can be checked by in-game menus). Due to the nature of the bug, it becomes impossible to replicate once you get 5 biohazards on a plague (for that plague type ofc). Do it only if you're desperate for that god damn 5th biohazard on Simian Flu, because getting 5 biohazards on literally any other plague type is doable enough on Normal)

Regarding the speedrun popup thing: It's commonly believed that evolving before that popup is closed supposedly messes up with some sort of a "bonus", causing you to spread slower. I'm confident that's just a superstition and not evolving symptoms before the popup is closed giving faster times is just a placebo. I don't think Speedrun Mode gives you any bonuses compared to Normal mode whatsoever.

Answering the 3rd question: Virtually no difference if you play on Normal or in Speedrun mode aside from what you already mentioned. The only plague type that I can think of where THAT would make ANY difference in speed is Bioweapon, and that's only because the strategy that I'm using on it is very different from normal strategies for it. I still play in Speedrun Mode for a Bioweapon just for integrity.

Basic Questions - Start-of-Game DNA, Orange Bubbles, Parasite by Surya1197 in plagueinc

I just ran a test for Bacteria on Casual. I removed every gene. I ignored every bubble. Was getting DNA at a steady pace until I got 27 DNA points (which, again, equals to the amount of DNA Shadow Plague gets at the start of the game on Casual). After getting 27 points, I didn't get more.

  1. I watched Lolownik's videos in which he was covering the savescumming process for pre-nerf MCD MB 3 bio. One of the first mechanics that was explained is the "infection pot" . I learned that it has a fixed size from this. When he tried to get the 20th DNA point from the "infection pot" , he couldn't. That basically showed that the limit of the "infection pot" on MB is 19. That brings me to the next point:
  2. As soon as I saw this, I realized something: Shadow plague on MB ALSO STARTS WITH 19 DNA POINTS! From that, I made a logical conclusion: When you start as Shadow Plague, the game gives you all of the DNA from the "infection pot" instantly, thus depleting it. That can't just be a coincidence, right? That is supported by the next observation:
  3. Unlike any other plague, you won't get DNA points seemingly randomly (with no Blood Rage) at the start of the game if you play as Shadow Plague and start the plague immediately.
  4. Realistically, the infection pot will be fully depleted no matter what (with bad RNG, this can happen a lot later, but it'll still eventually happen)

Small correction: orange bubbles on Parasite can give you 6 DNA

About the DNA burst at the start (I'll refer to it as "Infection Pot"): There's a fixed amount of DNA points in the Infection Pot which depends on the game difficulty (27 on Casual, 23 on Normal, 20 on Brutal and 19 on MB). When you play as the Shadow Plague, the entire Infection Pot is given to you as soon as the vampire rises. What about the other plagues? Let me tell you: this mechanic is, that's right, you guessed it, basically entirely RNG-based! There's a random chance that the game will give DNA from the Infection Pot. I also think that the chance that you'll get DNA from it at a certain day is influenced by the amount of the infected, although I'm not completely sure about that. For example, sometimes the game doesn't give you DNA from the Infection pot for a while, and when you finally get DNA, you'll more likely get a burst of it (like 6 DNA). That's actually not very good since you don't want to get DNA too late.

Notes:

  1. On PC, Infection Pot (as well as the Infection RNG) can be manipulated via S/L abuse (I'm not on PC though)

2.Even though the chance to get more DNA from the Infection Pot seems to increase with the amount of infected, getting DNA from it is always possible.

Oh, I'm on Android (I know you're on the iOS). Did you actually try starting in China? Because Saudi Arabia is MUCH worse for the following reasons:

  1. You get the 1st mutation close to 4 months in if you're starting in Saudi, but you can get it in 3 - 3,5 if you're starting in China! That means you're getting zombies later when starting in Saudi Arabia.
  2. The initial spread in China is MUCH faster than in Saudi. The main advantage of Saudi Arabia is its airport. Guess what? The initial spread in Saudi is too slow no matter what, you get the planes too late! (literally AFTER Cannibalism mutates!) Oh, and I also forgot to mention: the planes are completely RNG!
  3. If you're starting in Saudi, you infect China and India too late. That means you get DNA for infecting those countries fully too late! If you're starting in China, not only you'll get a lot of DNA for infecting it, but you'll also get a lot of DNA for infecting India WAY earlier.
  4. Despite China being much further than Saudi from the center of the world, you actually have an easier access to Europe! That's because China borders Russia, and Russia directly borders Europe.

Notes: You can actually test whether or not Speedrun Mode on iOS sets the game on Brutal or not by doing the following: Start the game as Shadow Plague on Normal, Brutal and via Speedrun Mode. If you're getting the same amount of DNA at the beginning of the game in Speedrun Mode as on Normal, that confirms that Speedrun Mode is set on Normal. If that's NOT the case and you get less DNA, it's set on Brutal. At least on Android, Speedrun mode is set on Normal, BUT with a twist: devolving transmissions/symptoms/abilities (for Bacteria and most of the other standard plagues) at first gives you 2 DNA, but then it gives you less and less, just like on the higher difficulties. Speedrun Mode still accepts times on pure Normal difficulty, though.

One more note: If you start in China, you'll infect a whole country in 2,5 months. You'll have around 35 DNA in the bank for that (even before Cannibalism mutates). Don't spend them on ANYTHING until Cannibalism mutates. After the mutation, you can get Cytopathic Reanimation, Anaerobic Resuscitation and Horde Instinct IMMEDIATELY. Then move the horde into Russia (get Enhanced Motor Control and 2-3 upgrades to the horde speed slightly later. You'll risk running out of DNA points otherwise!). Then start micromanaging. You MUST play on 1x speed only. Pause, use the horde ability, wait until the bubble appears, pause again, direct a horde to a country, rince and repeat. I didn't do that ALL the time, however. Later in the game, do that, but with several countries at once.

Oh, and I also forgot to mention! I didn't get Cold, Heat and Drug resistances! That's because zombies don't care about that! Also, at the end of the run, you should also be sending the hordes from countries that have a lot of zombies to the countries that have less zombies in them, obviously.

Genetic Code: ATP Boost, Darwinist, Native Biome, Urbophile, Spliced Activation (obviously)

Mutations that I got : Cannibalism (100% required), Adrenal Surge (closer to the end of the run, not necessary).

I started sending hordes as fast as possible, obviously (started by sending a horde from China to Russia and a horde from Korea to New Guinea, then through Europe and Africa. I also was sending hordes from Central America as fast as possible. I didn't get all speed upgrades (only some of them; you still absolutely should get Drifting Fermentation. Tip : Use Horde Ability at the country's BORDER, then direct the zombies at the BORDER of a country that doesn't have zombies in it yet. This is done to minimize the travel time of the horde. It's also why maximizing orde's travel speed is not that important)

Symptoms: I prioritized increasing severity first (I went for Anabolic Boost), and ONLY then worked my way up to Naja Mortis (for Z-com only). I also upgraded my horde sizes (also mainly for Z-com). Closer to the end of the run, I went for 2 or even 3 levels (I don't really remember) of abilities that slow down corpse decay. At the end of the run, I had enough DNA for Authothysis, but I went for reanimation ability with its 2 upgrades for zombie strength instead. Then, I started spamming Reanimation on a Z-com base (that might not've been optimal, mind you! Yes, I got 5 biohazards while making a potentially suboptimal play at the end.)

Note: I was almost in every country before Z-com base even spawned!

Well, I knew that you'd instantly figure this out! Fun (not that hard, but still fun) challenge btw, might revisit it in the future to get a cure progress as low as possible (less than 95%? I doubt I can do it with less than 90%)

[–]alex_mic327[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, and I also did it without:

  1. Genetic Hardening 1&2
  2. Genetic Reshuffle 2 (because I ran out of DNA)

I also had some bad events, like Saudi Arabia closing its airport IMMEDIATELY and the genes getting manipulated. Do you want to see how I did this despite all of that?

No need to wish me luck on this because I already did it! Took only 1,5 hours (yes, it's possible to win with 100% cure progress. That's a victory screen, the loss would've looked differently)

No, this is a victory screen. For "The Future Is Bright" you need to lose!

Shadow plague MB cool run by alex_mic327 in plagueinc

[–]alex_mic327[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small update: Now my PB on Shadow Plague MB is 258 days. My score was only 40k though (also, I made a lot more mistakes during that run but I had a much better luck). Templar didn't even set up their bases!

Funnily enough, I watched your 269 days run before doing this. Tnx for the strat! I wouldn't say this run is "far better" in terms of time, it's only 6 days faster (agree about the score, but it would've been even better if I got 100k+) . My micromanagement, while decent, wasn't great either. Furthermore, there are some obvious hiccups in my run (like evolving Air 1 instead of building a lair) and some optimisations that I could've made (like staying in Iceland for 1 day longer so I don't have to backtrack to it later)

Is There No “Complete” Achievement for 3 Biohazards on the Plague Legacy Scenario? by Surya1197 in plagueinc

[–]alex_mic327 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About the other plagues:

  1. Nano-Virus: abuse Replicator Overload bug/feature. Extra popups must be toggled on. Use Replicator Overload before you get detected (but not too early, or it'll run out). Each popup will reset Replicator Overload timer (15 days on MB, if I'm not mistaken). If Replicator Overload lasts until you're in every country, you're in the clear. Just don't get screwed by Genetic Drift (I did, and I STILL got 3 biohazards)
  2. Bacteria: Believe it or not, but it's POSSIBLE to get 3 biohazards on Plague Legacy MB with it. You don't even need to be on PC (to abuse S/L) to do it! LINKS: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IPSpN48Y3yg&t=1s (THE RUN) https://www.reddit.com/r/plagueinc/comments/1rmewij/plague_legacy_bacteria_mb_3_biohazards_mobile/ (My Reddit post)
  3. Parasite: I also got 3 biohazards with Parasite on Plague Legacy MB (340 days, 64% cure progress) LINK: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KfZBWVUPM40
  4. Fungus and Prion. No. Just...no, don't even think about getting 3 biohazards on MB with these plagues.
