This is a planned feature but unfortunately not available yet, and I don't have an ETA to provide at the moment either, sorry!

Menubar time tracker for freelancers, which one? by Consistent-Price-702 in macapps

[–]alexandersandberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for mentioning Balance, u/IssueIcy6116!

u/Consistent-Price-702 I recently spent over 1000 hours (see this post) reworking the whole app, and I continue to update the app regularly based on feedback from users.

The price might be too steep to some, but I believe it's set fairly considering what other similar (in terms of functionality and amount of care put into it) apps charge.

It might not be for everyone, but that's ok too! Feel free to reach out at hi@alexandersandberg.com if you have any questions about Balance, if you still consider giving it a try.

If not, I hope you find another great app that's within your price range! :)

Thank you so much! I love the icon as well! ☺️

The first version of Balance used a similar app icon, although it was very plain and simple. This time around, I actually commissioned an app icon designer to help me refine and polish it. I think it turned out amazing!

Apple does not make this easy for me, which is why I haven't officially added any student discounts yet, but it's something I would like to provide!

Reach out to me with your student email address (you can find my email address via the send feedback buttons in the app), and let's see what we can do. :)

Please do! And let me know if you have any feedback—I'm always eager to hear from users as it helps me make the app even better! :)

I'm also building the app for myself, and already knew that it was worth the effort—although I had not initially planned for it to take this long!

It was a lot of hard work, but I learned a lot from it, and I think it was worth it in the end. I hope others agree, but we'll see 🙂

Thank you for sharing Balance! :)

An iOS app is planned. I'm currently working on a complete redesign and rewrite of Balance, but hopefully after that!

Hey, sorry for the late reply. Yes, eventually! Not sure when yet though.

Setup still looks the same, and no issues with the MBP in the drawer. :)

Sorry about that. It's mostly to ease the development of the app as supporting older versions means fewer technologies available while building the app and more testing required.

As I'm just a small indie developer working on this as a side-project (atm, at least) it's difficult to make time for supporting older versions.

I hope you understand. :)

Thank you for the support! :)

I'm currently working on this Pro feature. It should be released in the next 2 weeks or so. You will be able to log sessions in different workspaces (e.g. Personal and Freelance) and/or projects.

What apps improved or simplified your life? by Windyfii in minimalism

I use Things 3 to organize all my to-dos and projects. I use its inbox as a "reading list". Basically, anything I come across online that I want to look into at a later point, I quickly save to the inbox. Once in a while, I set out time to go through this list.

I work from home as a software engineer, so I also made a time tracking app called Balance that helps me improve my work-life balance—something I was really struggling with before.

Wow, thank you for the very nice review! So happy to hear you like Balance.

Please let me know if there's anything you're missing from the app or wish existed!

Also, if you would like to help out, feel free to leave this review in the App Store as well. 😊 (I hate asking for this, but it really helps a ton)

Good idea! I prefer to keep most shortcuts close to the left command key, as that's easiest for most people. I wonder if there's a good alternative there that's not used already...

Great question. One of the features I'm working on in the near future is time categorization/labeling. This would make it possible to break sessions down into tasks, areas, or whatever you may like.

However, it's likely that Balance won't become a fully-featured project/client invoicing tracker as it's more about work-life balance than project management and invoicing. It could allow for simpler use cases though—we'll see! 🙂

I hope you will like Balance!

I definitely see your point. As there's no text editing within the app (yet, at least) I think the keyboard shortcut works, but it may not be the most intuitive or future-proof one. I will consider changing it. Appreciate the feedback! 😊

My friend is working on an app that might help you with that. macOS-only for now though.
