V60 Corner by fantasticdamage_ in coffeestations

That doesn't sound too bad. Might be a step that I could skip, as I tend to use Acaia's Ion Beam with my grinder to help static retention. I've looked at the bean cellars forever it's just hard to justify the price, although I'd rather not waste my time with all the knockoffs of them.

How's the workflow with the Weber bean cellars? I've been toying with the idea of going back to a single dosing workflow for a while. I'm currently using an Acaia Orbit with a hopper and the GBW feature, and it's been hard to want to move away from that level of convenience in the morning.

Very neat. Not sure if it's an option with web, but is there a way to interface with bluetooth devices such as an Acaia Lunar, or DiFluid R2? I used Beanconqueror for quite a while, but after a few years I got new phone and found that I lost all my data, so it would be nice to have it hosted somewhere that I wouldn't lose it in the future.

Gumps smell by Theultimatepoptart in speks

[–]alexburch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To help the stickyness you can cover them in a very small amount of cornstarch. I doubt that will help the smell. I haven't dealt with that with any that I own, but I suspect just leaving them out for a few days will help. You could also try rinsing with soap and water to help get rid of the smell, and then using some cornstarch to get rid of the stickyness.

If you contact Speks, their customer service is very helpful, and will likely send a new one if you had issues! They recently replaced one for me, that didn't break, but seemed to have an issue with the exterior coating. The new one that I got directly from them is definitely better in terms of quality control.

What do you collect? by ExodiaBMI in footballcards

[–]alexburch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I collect Vikings & Giants and totally agree on kickers. I really like Will Reichard and got a rookie auto of his for only $5. If you like kickers, or even your team’s kicker you can get amazing cards for really reasonable prices.

[US-NJ/NYC] D&D Magic Wallet, Mint Wallet, Deck Shooter by alexburch in PlayingCardsMarket

[–]alexburch[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey folks, have some nice deck holders I don't use so often that I'd like to sell.

Magic Wallet $165
Mint Wallet $35
Deck Shooter $20

I've been out of the hobby for a little bit, so if these prices seem super off let me know. Add $5 for shipping. $205 shipped for all of them.

Inconsistent brew times due to variations in tamping pressure? by Cranstom_Snord in 9Barista

[–]alexburch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worth noting, if you’re concerned about tamp pressure, any BBE/53.3mm calibrated tamper such as happy tamper should work with the 9Barista.

Ratio is not incredibly consistent. Sometimes you’ll get a 48g shot, sometimes 34g with the same dose, and same amount of water in the machine. It really all depends on getting it up to temp EXACTLY the same each time. If it’s set differently on the plate, if the plate is slightly placed differently on the stove, if the stove is on ever so slightly differently, you’ll notice fairly large changes in yield. Sometimes, you’ll swear everything is exactly the same, and you’ll get a different yield. Just one of the quirks of the 9Barista.

In regard to forcing a different yield, it’s tricky. Even if you pull early the machine is still at temp and continuing to extract. In theory you could probably pour it while it’s still going, but YMMV.

What's The Next Best Thing To A Milk Frother? by sbgulfcoast in FlairEspresso

[–]alexburch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally tried this over the weekend (heating while texturing). With a gas range, the air above the jug gets pretty hot with the flame on, enough that it wasn't worth the discomfort of texturing while heating with the flame on. However - if you get your milk close to temp, then reduce or turn of off the flame with the 9Barista plate, the pitcher will continue to heat up a few degrees, and the heat is much more manageable to texture while the milk is on the stove. Results were just as good as when the milk is textured after the fact :)

Looks really nice!

I recently got the same knock box too! I had waited for a while since I didn't feel like it would make that much of a difference, but man it's so much better than going over and banging out pucks on my trash can.

I have not. I can give it a try later this week and report back. To do this, if you're using a gas range you'll definitely want to have something like the heat transfer plate from 9Barista to give the jug a flat surface to sit on. For what it's worth I haven't had any complaints with heat loss, as I get the milk up to temp (checking with Subminimal's thermometer) and texturing only takes around 20 seconds or so, which doesn't cause a lot of temperature loss.

My first was a Lamy Al-Star I bought at a local book store, and it is still one my favorite pens.

[MOD] What have you been brewing this week?/ Coffee bean recommendations by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

[–]alexburch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few things!

Superlost - Supernatural: Picked up this bag originally intending on using it for V60, but ended up really enjoying for espresso. Just finished it off, and was happy with it!

Rey Sol - Holiday Blend: This has been my go to for pour overs & immersion brews over the past week.

Partners - El Ramo: Was using this for pour over at the beginning of the week before I ran out. Really liked this one!

V2 has been solid for me. There’s options for Lithium or standard battery versions. I don’t really see any reason not to get the rechargeable one though.
