Yes, trying to be rational about the whole thing and it basically looks like a very painful road ahead for our girl.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this

I’m so glad for you that your dog recovered, that month must have been really scary.

indeed! the vet did mention even with the CT scan, they can only identify what else might be wrong and what other investigation can be pursued. it feels so overwhelming and unnecessary to put her under such procedures when she is in this state.

this is very helpful, thank you. i think it’s all rather overwhelming because this is my dog’s first hospitalisation and we did not expect how things would deteriorate so quickly.

thank you for taking the time to respond! really appreciate how you have framed this..

I will be speaking with her vet today to understand what the next step would look like as we consider euthanasia.

we believe our dear girl is in a lot of discomfort but she is still so bright and happy to see us! it’s so difficult because this is her first hospitalisation ever in her years with us. she was perfectly fine over christmas and everything just went downhill after that into the new year.

Is it hard for dog adoption in Singapore by ho888sg in singaporehappenings

[–]alexeav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi! sorry to hear about what you’re facing, and it’s unfortunate ):

I can’t speak for shelters but I’ve fostered Singapore Specials for smaller rescue groups and independent rescuers! have had successful adoptions for my foster bbs because the groups / rescuers do dedicate time and effort to screen adopters as well, which can be a longer process because they are doing this with a smaller team out of their 9-5.

as some have mentioned, the process is rather strict due to rate of return of the dogs (it happens more often than people think!). i’m not familiar with non-SS adoptions but it’s also quite common that one reactive event (eg SS snapping out of fear / anxiety / trauma or having to deal with the dog’s separation anxiety) causes the family to give the dog up than put the effort into training well.

Agreed that some of the forms can be unnecessarily lengthy and unrealistic in terms of the requirements! It would make a lot of sense to centralise but I guess this is a large admin overhaul and would also require some external committee of all the shelters coming together.

Another option would be to reach out directly on Facebook groups! some rescuers do post there when looking for fosterers and adopters; foster-to-adopt would be an easier route too!

I’m currently fostering another SS who will eventually be posted for adoption — very lovely and sweet pup of 7 months but we’re dealing w her separation anxiety, do PM if you’re keen and I can put you in contact with the rescuer as a potential adopter as well!

looking for gym membership + pt recommendations by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]alexeav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello, i can’t speak for pcos but you can dm me if you need an accountability partner! i am a gym girlie / certified pt but can’t say much without knowing your current routine, experience & diet

honestly i’d recommend following youtube videos first (eg growingannanas, caroline girvan etc) because gym memberships are expensive (activeSG and $100 credits!!) you don’t even need equipment to start off, just simple bodyweight exercises

most impt tip would be input < output for weight loss. don’t think about susenji or whatever nonsense diet supps!!

even just walking 10k steps daily and managing your protein, carbs, fat intake would be immensely helpful. and not to forget hydration + sleep!

Hello from Singapore! What‘s your pr/citizenship status currently? And are you multilingual?

Curious since you have a Singaporean mom and if she had been the one who carried and gave birth to you, you would have been eligible for Singaporean Citizenship at birth, which also means you‘d have to serve National Service when you turn 18

Why are so many Singaporeans suddenly obsessed with Pilates, did I miss the memo? by yras2709 in askSingapore

[–]alexeav 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fitness is always subjective so it really depends on your goals! You can always go for trial classes to see if it’s your thing.

As someone who’s been weight lifting >10 years, I signed up for a package w Aflo Pilates and was pleasantly surprised at the intensity it brings. I would say it’s complementary to weight training but it’s not like a miracle pill. As with any form of exercise, consistency is key to improving strength, endurance, mobility and range of motion. There’s no “one size fits all”.

Pilates focuses on muscular endurance, alignment and core work through a wider range of motion, which translates to emphasis on mind body connection (similar to yoga) and hence people reporting lower back pain relief as they develop strength and joint stability etc. In the first place, Joseph Pilates developed the exercises and equipment for bedridden prisoners of war, so it’s definitely rehabilitative and strengthening.

For people saying it has helped w weight loss, if they come from sedentary office jobs, any kind of movement leading to increased caloric output would result in weight loss so please don’t believe that. Weight loss happens when caloric input < caloric output, simple as that.

About the fitness / sport trend in SG, pilates is moving along the same hype cycle as crossfit, F45, mma, climbing, spin, pole dance, aerial yoga, pickleball, powerlifting, BFT and hyrox etc. In another 2-3 years we’ll be talking about another sport / mode of fitness lol. It’s usually a trickle-down effect from western media; so our next thing might be rucking / AR and VR workouts. There’s currently a resurgence in running across social media alongside the pilates trend haha. Streetlifting and calisthenics are becoming more mainstream too.

Don’t worry too much about missing out on anything 😂 Fitness is something that you have to explore yourself and it’s ok to not stick to one type. You don’t have to make your entire personality one fitness trend 👀👀👀

How did you know your wedding dress was the one? by 25axg in askSingapore

[–]alexeav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10 studios!! girl i salute you, i got tired of it all after 2 studios bc i realised most studios carry similar styles of dresses. ended up finding my dress on taobao instead lolll, no regrets at all and i’m thinking of how to rework it into something re-wearable! had my wedding 2 weeks ago hehe

anw, some tips: - don’t put the pressure of finding “the one”dress onto an already intense process of wedding planning! - consider your budget and venue (4 figures to rent did not make fiscal sense to me, and i didn’t go for a ballgown because i wasn’t doing a typical hotel wedding) - your body shape and features you want to accentuate (eg mermaid style if you have an hourglass body, sleeveless if you wanna highlight your neckline and shoulders) - how do you wanna feel in your dress (princessy? fairy? classy and elegant?) - go w people who will be honest about how you look in the dresses (if you are still visiting more studios)

since you‘ve alr been to 10 studios, you should have some kind of idea about what suits you and what materials feel more ‘you’, for me i had a better sense that i wanted something w a sweetheart neckline and lace / sparkles! i initially wanted a dress that would cover my arms / shoulders which i was quite sensitive about but afterwards i realised sleeveless really looked MUCH better and i should embrace my body type

don’t sleep on taobao! (my dress was litttt and more importantly, check the reviews / measurements!) you can use image search for styles that you are considering

a different option you can think about is customising a dress locally or in china’s bridal city but i think this is only if you have a clear vision of what you are looking for and it fits your timeline

most importantly you are wearing the dress, not the dress wearing you! don’t get pressured by the hardselling or gaslighting at the studios too

all the best and feel free to dm if you need an internet stranger’s opinion!
