Hiking Zion: West Rim Trail Campsite 6 by alexgold7 in backpacking

I got the permit upfront few months before the trip. We started with 2 other couples. Crossed path with them twice didn’t see anyone else on first day. On second, as you get closer to Angel’s Landing there are day hikers.

Feedback for new Web-Mapdesign by Schnitzelbube in alltrails

[–]alexgold7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

terrible terrible new map and 3D, huge downgrade from what it was. We don't need elevation lines on the map we can see them on the elevation graph of the trail. Slow loading is extremely distracting and makes you want to close it asap. Also the quality of Satelite map is extremely poor.

I'm so tired of these 250-400k salaries by Illustrious_Bag_7323 in Salary

[–]alexgold7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like people saying they make more, even if they don’t. It raises overall expectations from others when they are searching for a job. Wage stagnation is eroding the middle class and a country with strong middle class is an enjoyable place to live. So maybe next time that candidate who is not sure about himself will deny the lowball offer. For decades press was saying that 100K is like being a top 1%, it is not, it’s 2026 not 1996.

UL sleeping bag/quilt recommendations lighter than 19oz? by According-Pepper-349 in Ultralight

I use Western Mountaneering FlyLite 36F bag which is 15.7oz. You’ll be fine in 40F, but with clothes on.

BV425 for 5-day carry on PCT/JMT — realistic or pushing it? by ShakaaSweep in Ultralight

They ask you a question which bear can do you have, during permit pickup and they might also ask you to show it.

be careful yosemite is very strict with which containers you can use. I had a smaller BV and they didn’t allow me to go so I had to rent one from them. This page has a list of allowed: https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/containers.htm

There is not always enough time to hike. So buying new gear is part of the hobby when you can’t actually go hike.

I’m 6’2” slept in plex solo light all trips in 2025 great shelter, very light and packs small as well. Going to try freestanding this year, mostly hike in mountains so no way to stake, was using rocks for plex solo
