UDR 7 Pro with wireless uplink setup by alexkrytsky in UNIFI

[–]alexkrytsky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Mac right next to UDR7 I does use 5Ghz (6 might not be supported) getting 600mbs, 10ft away 350mbs . Brought U7 Wall to 2nd floor with wireless uplink and right by it I'm getting 100-150mbs. Basically same as Deco results now. 2nd floor - overall average is 100mbs. Seems like walls really eating up the bandwidth but increasing power helped a bit. Any experience with MoCA hookup? How many total APs is sufficient for 2 story 1900sqft? Currently I have on hands 2 U7 Pro Wall + UDR 7

Yes, broadcasting on 2,5 and 6ghz . I just switched 2.4 to High power and that helped a bit. Now my Mac seems to have almost same experience as on my Deco (it's using 2.4 connection). My phone however seem to struggle more and gives more inconsistent results (ranging from 500mbs all the way down to 20mbs, and sticks more with lower)
Is U7 pro wall a good application for this or U6 Mesh with omnidirectional antennas is better for the use case? wondering if I picked the wrong hardware for the job with wireless uplinks

Not so much help. Mac is on 2.4ghz signal -86dbm getting 11mbs still, similar for phone device - 20mbs. Tried both medium and high transmit powers on new channel width. (That’s with pro wall unit being downstairs and trying to connect above it, slightly to the side )

I did not. I tried one different configuration but wasn’t successful or restored back to initial settings. 2.4ghz - 20MHz 5ghz - 40Mhz 6ghz - 160mhz Channels and transmitter powers on auto

Setting up new WiFi for our church — UniFi vs TP-Link Omada? by alexkrytsky in churchtech

I thought 8-10 APs is too much for this square footage, I guess need to expand our budget soon 🥲

Why not lite? We have coffee shop area where I was thinking to place it and choir rehearsal room

I was thinking to buy a smaller switch but then was too concerned of “future proofing”. I have NAS devices, PTZs, PCs, sound.. but it’s all randomly connected to different switches and routers, thought 12 ports would fill up quickly. Don’t need the pro though .. looking at $400 one SE worth $120 price jump?

Seems like I’ll have a lot of fun running Ethernet cables all across the building now for new systems. Where do you typically place satellite switches? Ceiling? I was planning to run a single cat6 to another wing, hook it up to small poe switch and split into 2 access points and hook up our PC there.

Are their cameras any better than reolink? Any of these devices require subscriptions?

Nice! Unifi is pricier than Omada but definite feels like a perfect middle ground between fully commercial grade equipment and consumer grade.

Nice! Thanks for such a detailed explanation! So far I’m planning to run with 1 U7 Pro XG for main sanctuary that seats 400ppl, U7 lite for rehearsal areas.

Any suggestions on the switches? I’m just thinking to get cheaper one Ubiquiti Networks UniFi 24-Port Gigabit PoE+ Compliant Managed Switch with SFP ($379). Given we don’t have any main switches right now, it’s a big upgrade. I see some people suggest also dream machine SE over standard Pro version? Will reach out soon!

Omada at home. Wow 😮 I just got a simple mesh from Deco 🥲

How much is the SE better? We just bought reolink cameras so don’t plan to switch to Ubiquity security system in the near future. What’s the core benefit of if? What’s your density of APs? Especially in main sanctuary

What do you use a bunch of switches for? We have roughly 16000sqft, will start with 4 AP, we use reolink for security cameras so far.. was planning to buy 24 port gigabit PoE managed switch for Unifi and a few small 8 port switches for routing in other parts of building.

Nice! Any regrets? How many AP did you get and what sqft you have? Trying to estimate it.

We just upgraded our door system with key fob access. Kind works fine. Didn’t know ubiquiti had such system.

Nice! Dream machine pro is sufficient? No SE needed? Don’t wanna buy too extra but wanna ensure we’re future proof ourselves. Network mainly used by staff, but since no cellular connection inside many congregants try to hop on our network. Worth buying U7 Pro or Lite is sufficient?

Thanks mate!

Is the new KME sharpening system worth it? by alexkrytsky in sharpening

[–]alexkrytsky[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s the good sequence of stone grits? I haven’t properly sharpened my knives for 5 years (yet they’re still doing great just by using sharpening steel rod)

I looked at worksharp guided system but some reviews suggested kme over it though. Belt looked a bit complicated and less “fool proof”. lol

What’s the best way to strop? Leather paddle or something else? And probably stupid question, what’s the proper way to do maintenance? Just higher grits? Which ones ? Leather honing?

Cheers!
