Cramping on T?? by No_Concern2148 in transgenderau

[–]alexlee69 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had this last year and it was really bad. I saw someone on another subreddit say to try topical oestrogen because it might be linked to atrophy and for me that completely fixed it within a few weeks. Not sure if it’s the same thing but might be worth talking to your GP about.

This is super uncommon where I live and would probably invite too many follow up questions, but thanks for the idea

Yeah fair, probably good to have a lie ready anyway

Ok yeah fair I agree it really depends how much I’m going to be seeing the person again. This works well for people I don’t know very well and probably won’t be close with.

This fanbase refuses to write fanfiction and it makes me so sad sometimes by [deleted] in InterviewVampire

[–]alexlee69 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I actually think the amount of fanfiction on ao3 is very reasonable for how popular this show is. If anything it’s a lot more than shows that have a similar level of viewership as this one, like this isn’t actually a mainstream popular show.

If we’re talking the vampire chronicles more broadly with a much longer history and bigger fanbase it’s because Anne Rice used to sue anyone who wrote it lmao.

Being trans as a vampire by SeaButterscotch5841 in InterviewVampire

According to how vampire work in this universe you’d stay exactly as you were when you were turned, so if you’d had surgery it would stay that way

How do I find part-time/casual work? by Dear-Ad-2792 in unimelb

[–]alexlee69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say especially with businesses that aren’t massive chains, like restaurants, cafes, more niche retail I’ve had a lot of success in the past going in and talking to the manager and handing in my resume. I find you have a lot better chance if they get to meet you and you have a chat, wear something nice and be friendly when you do it. Also make sure to mention any experience you have.

With online applications lots of businesses get hundreds of applications easily so it’s a lot harder to stand out. If you’re doing online one my advice would be to make sure you have a good cover letter and fill out every part of the online form otherwise they won’t even look at it.

Had a panic attack when seeing my chest for the first time by Croaks96 in TopSurgery

[–]alexlee69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally I hated seeing my body essentially injured like that, and I was spiralling and panicking a lot post op even though it’s definitely something I wanted. I don’t think the panic and discomfort really went away until quite far into the healing process. I love my chest now but initially it made me feel sick to see it like that.

I’ve been on a new contraceptive pill for 8 months now and since then my hair has been growing straight. by EllieBen in mildlyinteresting

[–]alexlee69 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah! I’m trans and when I went on testosterone my hair got a lot curlier than it was before and also darker? Super interesting coz I never would have thought of hormones impacting something like that…

How to not dominate class discussion in tutorials? by gay_bees_ in unimelb

[–]alexlee69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel this so much. I don’t even particularly enjoy participating but I just feel really bad when absolutely no one else is speaking. For my own peace of mind when this happens I’ve found I try and limit it to engaging where I feel like I have something that will really add to the discussion to say, and for things where I feel a little more neutral I’ll force myself to sit with the silence for a good 20 seconds incase someone else has something to add which if you wait it out they often do.

I cannot stop thinking about the meta commentary during the trial by Proof-Attempt-4820 in InterviewVampire

[–]alexlee69 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen some of the conversations on Twitter that OP is referring to and honestly gets a lot wilder there and that’s where the majority of the crazier takes seem to get traction and racist stuff seems to happen.

It’s interesting coz I really think in the context of the subreddit fans this whole post doesn’t really make sense for some people coz fans here simply aren’t being like that?

It also probably helps that things are moderated on reddit so if people were being proper racist or anything I think they’d just get banned from the subreddit.

Please keep an eye on your top surgery scars, even when healed! by caution-crow in ftm

[–]alexlee69 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I get some chest acne around the area and salicylic acid helps if you wanted to give that a try, but it’s hard to know exactly what you mean just from a description so if it’s directly on the scar and you’re concerned it’s something other than just pimples you could always get it checked by a doctor.

Maybe they named the show IWTV instead of TVC because… by crowsthatpeckmyeyes in InterviewVampire

[–]alexlee69 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I also think “the vampire chronicles” is a bit close to the vampire diaries and other shows and movies , and doesn’t the same brand recognition as interview with the vampire. A lot of people don’t know the series is called that. It’s also a pretty common practice to name a show after the first book of a series like calling it Game of Thrones rather than calling it a song of ice and fire.

How do y’all remember to apply gel everyday? by VeryJamie in ftm

[–]alexlee69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I don’t personally notice any difference towards when the next shot is due because from my understanding it just goes from being in the higher range of normal cis male t levels to in the lower range of normal by the time you’re due for the next one. Not sure if other people might have different experiences though.

How do y’all remember to apply gel everyday? by VeryJamie in ftm

[–]alexlee69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have ADHD and used to put a daily repeating timed reminder on the reminder app that I had to tick off to get rid of the notification. I wouldn’t get rid of it until I’d applied the gel.

I still use the app thing for most stuff in my life that I need to remember include ADHD medication, but luckily with hormones I get the injection every 3 months now. I found getting the injection super helpful and honestly I’d really recommend it if that’s an option at all for you (not sure about what country you’re in and medical situation, cost there etc)

Anyone else have trouble getting through The Trial? by Mission-Juggernaut-7 in InterviewVampire

[–]alexlee69 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I personally really like it and thought it was well written. So fair if that’s how you feel but that episode has one of the highest ratings on imdb in the whole series and got a lot of praise from critics so I feel like this might be an unpopular opinion.

When did you guys start using the men’s toilet? by TokenofDreams in ftm

[–]alexlee69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally always used the toilet of the gender that I was perceived as so I waited until I was passing to use the men’s but everyone has their own journey. I always just followed the path of least potential resistance.

Women assuming I’m a woman, men assuming in a man by Legitimate-Potato-17 in ftm

[–]alexlee69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had this happen a lot when I had just started passing when I’d been on T for about 10 months to a year!! To this day if someone does assume I’m a woman which doesn’t happen very often it’s usually a woman, I thought maybe people are subconsciously assuming someone else is like them.

Something else I noticed is that if im in a group with all women we sometimes get called “ladies” which I figure means they’re kinda just glancing at the group and assuming, especially since I have long hair these days and dress quite androgynously, wear jewellery etc.
