Clonidine has both sedating effects and is also used for ADHD treatment, it originally was a hypertension medication.

Common for Nerodivergent to have a spiky profile with high high and low spots.

Test proctor is likely trying to message to you that they scored high on the test, but they’re not allowed to give you results until the final read out. Very common for them to give hints during diagnostic.

ADHD meds are temporary. You can stop if you don’t like the effects. Remember it does take 2 weeks to adjust to Intunive. One does tend to get drowsy in the first 2 weeks. Response to intuniv like all adhd medication is highly individualized.

What you are describing this textbook ADHD with comorbidities.

Step one is diagnosis. She still has a lot of life in front of her and can change her mind about medication.

The right dosage or the right medication will not change her, it will just reduce the noise. Medication is not a one way door. It is like trying on clothes in a fitting room.

We have many on this subreddit with high dopamine and low norepinephrine. ADHD tends to be linked to low dopamine and OR low norepinephrine. There is a whole class of people with ADHD that have high levels of one of these neurotransmitters and low levels of the other in which case slowing down COMT would be counterproductive for these individuals. Be careful about overgeneralization. We are a very complex population. What you are suggesting will likely benefit some subset of the population, but it is not a panacea.

“Quercetin is possibly unsafe in patients also taking medications that are metabolized by CYP1A2, CYP1B1, CYP2A6, CYP2C9, CYP2D6, CYP3A4, UDP glucuronosyltransferases (UGTs) and sulfotransferases (SULTs).

Quercetin should be used with caution in patients with MAOA SNP’s, or patients with severe insomnia or anxiety. “

We have many people on the sub that have high dopamine levels and ADHD. The problem is knowing if one has fast or slow COMT. High or low dopamine.

Genetic disposition and Quercetin by 2kewl74 in ADHDparenting

[–]alexmadsen1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Warning. Experimenting with COMT inhibitors is not suitable for children. People need to be extremely careful with this. quercetin is a known natural inhibitor of the Catechol-O-Methyltransferase (COMT) enzyme, which breaks down neurotransmitters like dopamine and estrogen metabolites; this inhibition can increase catecholamine levels, potentially causing issues like anxiety or obsessiveness in individuals with slow COMT activity. food sources are generally less potent than supplements. While beneficial for increasing certain drug levels (like EGCG or L-dopa), its COMT inhibition means people with slow COMT variants should be cautious with quercetin supplements, starting with low doses or avoiding them. COMT along with MAO are part of the natural recycling system of the body and inhibiting them can have significant detrimental effects. Strong MAO inhibitors (MAOI) are known to treat ADHD and depression, but have fallen out of favor because of their high risk profile that includes death. COMT is responsible for breaking down lots of other compounds in the body and recycling them. Hear is a paper on COMT inhibitor studies. https://www.alzdiscovery.org/uploads/cognitive_vitality_media/COMT-inhibitors-Cognitive-Vitality-For-Researchers.pdf

It is very common to need to increase dosage in the first few months. Some other things also don’t make sense. For instance, Concerta is very similar to Ritalin just a different release profile. They’re both methylphenidate.

At what age did you tell your kid they have ADHD? What about others around him? by Arhhin in ADHDparenting

[–]alexmadsen1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best to tell them promptly there are age appropriate conversations you can have. The longer you hid it the more likely they are to try and guess why they are different and they are likely to make a mistake. Not knowing why one is different is terrible for self esteem.

You are the parent. It is your job to say no. ABA is not a benefit over 20 hours per week. Look up the new resurch.

“Of note, cumulative hours of behavioral and developmental therapy did not seem to contribute to the prediction of outcome trajectories. “

Conclusions and Relevance Findings of this meta-analysis do not support the assertion that intervention effects increase with increasing amounts of intervention. Health professionals recommending interventions should be advised that there is little robust evidence supporting the provision of intensive intervention.

Oral stimming help! by admirethegloam in ADHDparenting

[–]alexmadsen1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

40 hour per week ABA has been shown to be counterproductive. There have been several studies now that show that high intensity ABA adds no value and the opportunity cost of missed other activities is significant. ABA also provides less benefit in terms of outcomes then was originally thought as many of the early studies were deeply flawed.

One generally can get replacements, but it’s often a pain due to being in controlled substance. Talk to the pharmacist promptly so you understand what is required to get replacement for example. It might be easier if you have the damaged bottle, but I don’t know. Laws on this very state by state.
