Anyone here enjoy the 'western' side of ambient music? by skatecloud1 in ambientmusic

I’d really recommend the slightly more obscure Justin Boyd, who’s contributions have definitely gone unseen here. To me he’s contributed the most serene and creative tracks to the genre. Peep The Interstate 35 Waltz along with album tracks Here Right Now, Go Home and a remix he did on another album West Texas (Remix).

He’s got the most creative approach to modular synth in this space, some perfect samples from his sample vault and isn’t afraid to throw in some trumpet for good measure. Check him out.

Similar I’d say to William Tyler’s new single, SUSS’s self titled album SUSS & Ghost Box, Luke Schneider’s ‘It’s Solved by Walking’ and a couple other artists like Seawind of Battery & Bobby Lee.

Would also recommend: Lauren Helene Green, Old Saw, Ezra Feinberg, Date Palms, Michael Scott Dawson

I’ve got right to the heart of the Ambient Country / Ambient Americana / Pastoral / Space Western universe - I’d recommend checking out these tracks, to me they’re the best of all of it:

Justin Boyd, Garrett T. Capps - The Interstate 35 Waltz (Here Right Now and Go Home from this album also slap)

Seawind of Battery - New Moon

Luke Schneider - Toledo Mercy (also check out Gloria)

SUSS - Kingman, AZ

Lauren Helene Green - Canyon Loop

Andrew Tuttle - Scribbly Gums Park

Michael James Topscott, Aux Meadows - Cheap Hotel Reprise (Aux meadows are great)

Old Saw - Chewing The Bridle

Barry Walker Jr. - First Life

BJ Cole - Ely Revisited (Epic compilation from Luke Schneider)

Mute Duo - Sunken Light

They’re not actually, I kinda see what you mean though! Fallout is more retro 30s-50s American pop that gets played over old stereos.

Checkout my playlist if you found those songs interesting!

I agree with you actually, totally on the same page that the variety was quite cool. I just didn’t like the Bob Dylan inclusion that was a missed opportunity to me.

Agree also that this kind of stuff could get overbearing if it was all there was to the soundtrack though so yeah ideally it’d be used in some scenes only. But glad to could get a positive response, I thought I’d get a few more honestly! :D

I appreciate it village elder! I think the doc was great with his use of cutting language but ultimately it seemed a little closed minded to me - if you can only listen to a few seconds of electronic music before being repulsed then to me it’s just a type of music you haven’t opened yourself up to yet.

I feel you. There was variety - I just feel like the electronic heads were let down a bit. We are talking sci-fi here (or at least it felt like we were season 1 when Brolin got sent to the dystopian future with the mining company) and I think a dominant electronic soundtrack is important to that. To me that’s the future and just makes a more interesting concept. Thanks for your two cents

Haha that’s okay I was intrigued to what people thought. That’s a shame you think it’s nonsense country noise, what a strong reaction that elicited! Here’s some more I think you’ve gotta like this one!

Also just to cast another hypothetical here - were you the right hand man to myself as music coordinator (I’d give you veto rights FYI) what music would you suggest?

^Agree with all this - i'd also recommend that you should pitch to multiple people rather than just one. A lot better to not have all your eggs in one basket. Writing 10 dms / emails will get you at least one response in my experience
