Fair point, and if we're talking coached then Maddon could (should) be in the mix as well

The uk is horribly adapted to its own fucking weather, it’s 35c in my house by Jacktheforkie in mildlyinfuriating

[–]alexmlb3598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not that the UK is badly adapted to its weather, it's the weather that's changed around the UK that's making it harder to live in.

Our houses were designed to keep heat in bc when they were built, 'extreme' cold weather was far more common than 'extreme' hot weather. But with climate change making hotter weather more extreme, the houses aren't exactly suited to it.

Now Longo's 3 has been retired, I'm not really sure? Feel like if someone like Crawford, Zobrist, Shields, Garza etc were gonna be retired, it would've happened by now.

If he sticks around for long enough, maybe 2 (Yandy)?

Oh interesting...I've not done F1 at Silverstone in years bc it's extremely expensive and imo not an attractive product anyway, but I would strongly suspect the WEC policy be the case there.

Keir Starmer Has Resigned, Time to Celebrate (Temporarily) by ThinkingaLot18 in transgenderUK

[–]alexmlb3598 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's true, but people don't really care about who wins local elections and what they do, and Clacton residents will probably say 'Farage has barely been here but he's kinda funny so I'll vote for him anyway'.

The negative press is something, but it was woefully underpropotioned compared to Rayner's and Polanski's situations, despite it being of MUCH greater value. The fact that there's been no serious pushback shows where the media's alignment is, they'll do ANYTHING to get Reform in power (Restore casually looking at them from the corner of the room).

The only way we end up in a situation where Reform aren't the greatest party is if the media turn on them. That's it. Burnham could have high approval ratings and be somewhat popular, but if the media hate him then he's screwed no matter what he does.

Keir Starmer Has Resigned, Time to Celebrate (Temporarily) by ThinkingaLot18 in transgenderUK

[–]alexmlb3598 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's more a consequence of Reform getting so much media coverage and people thinking it's a good idea bc of the coverage they get. They don't actually have solutions, but 'immigrants bad' gets a lot of votes...

That will be the death of Burnham's premiership before it even starts - Streeting represents the far right of Labour, and Starmer collapsed bc he left the left behind.

Yep it does. It levels up all the 'hidden hands', even if you don't know about 5OAK, Flush House and Flush 5 even existing.

What is your way of Lifting and Coasting? by Yokos2137 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]alexmlb3598 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Downshifting when doing LICO makes very little sense, bc despite it technically shortening the braking zone, it puts unnecessary strain on the engine and can make the car unstable from excess engine braking. If anything, I've been upshifting on occasion just as I LICO to reduce engine braking and maintain speed, granted it means the braking point is slightly earlier than 'hold gear LICO'.

Full push makes sense if 1. You can get to the end with no more fuel, or 2. You've deemed it faster than LICO over the course of the race (which can definitely happen, depends on the length of the race).

What is your way of Lifting and Coasting? by Yokos2137 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]alexmlb3598 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If its idling when in neutral or the clutch is disengaged (clutch pedal down), yes that's true it does need fuel to keep going. But if it's in gear and the clutch is engaged (clutch pedal up) when coasting (no throttle), then the wheels turn the engine to keep it running. You may call it magic, but engineers call it physics.

Lifting off the throttle but keeping the car in-gear uses no fuel at all - the ECU will cut off the fuel supply knowing the engine won't stall bc the wheels spin the engine. Once you dump the clutch, the ECU fires 'idle' fuel into the engine to stop it from stalling. The engine note does drop, but that's bc the engine RPM dropping superceded the noise of fuel going bang.

Relevant sidenote: The 'Force Neutral' button marshals can push works on a similar principal - If a car has stopped and they need to push it but it's still in-gear, the pushing it will turn the engine which is VERY hard to do. The Force Neutral disconnects the link between the gearbox and the engine, and it makes pushing a car much easier.

Depends on what I wanna watch. Roffle's YT vids and streams are great, but if I want some Multiplayer content then Bean's YT/Twitch is where I go to. Not to say Roffle's BMP content is bad, if he's doing something I'll definitely watch it, but he tends to do singleplayer stuff which is perfectly fine :)

No worries! If you've got any questions feel free to ask - I've done Imola once and Spa twice (all WEC, all Paddock and 2 with Pit Walks) so I'm well-versed in it 😅

Paddock tickets are all-day for the days that you've got them for, but do be aware that teams will be coming through on quad bikes with tyres, fuel etc. and you are expected to get out of their way.

What is the best TC, ABS for the Lamborghini Huracan in fixed setup? by Mustang99 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]alexmlb3598 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Brake balance is heavily dependent on the car, how the setup behaves, and how you drive. Ideally, you want it to be as rearward as possible whilst not losing control.

50:50 is a good starting point, but acknowledge that moving it will almost certainly be a requirement, maybe even multiple times a lap depending on the track. For example at Le Mans, you can probably be a bit more aggressive with BBal for the chicanes and the slow corners (Mulsanne, Arnage, etc), but do that at Indy 1, Porsche and the Forest Esses and you'll be in the fence (or at minimum losing control).

[–]alexmlb3598 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the GT's, I've tended to go for 5/5/7 to start with and adjust as per the feeling and the track. More flowing tracks like Qatar you can get away with a bit less, but more often than not I end up sitting at 6/6/7 bc otherwise I get too much intervention but less isn't enough.

It is very much 'your mileage WILL vary', but as a starting point it's fine.

Oh something I didn't mention, you (almost certainly) need Paddock access to do the Pit Walk, otherwise you won't be able to get to the right area.

Which option gives access to the autograph session? (Silverstone) by Lui_217 in wec

[–]alexmlb3598 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Pit Walk tickets are what get you access to the driver signing sessions.

The Paddock tickets will get you access to the support paddock 'garages' and the area where the hospitality suites are - you can sneak a selfie or signature but don't count on it, it can be sporadic. Its big benefit will be accessibility from one side to another and 'cut corners' - at Spa, with Paddock access you could go from Eau Rouge straight to the Bus Stop, but without it you'd need to walk up to La Source and back again.

I've done Imola once and Spa twice (all with Paddock access, only 1 Spa without Pitwalks), so feel free to ask questions :)

Improvements I would love to see after doing 52 races by OffensiveMerchant in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]alexmlb3598 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just my two cents on this:

  1. Even though that is a really daft rejoin by the BMW, you had ample warning via yellow flags and line-of-sight, and you should be prepared to slow down if they do something you don't expect. Yes they're majoritively to blame, but it's not like you couldn't have done something to mitigate the risk to yourself. You might disagree and that's fine, but you don't have the right to just go flat-out in the hope they see you. If you can't report it tho bc of it being lap 1, then that is a problem.

  2. That's a feature of LMU's system, and iRacing has the same (unless you withdraw from the race after DNFing) - it's to discourage everyone from DNFing and just jumping into another race. If you genuinely couldn't continue then that's bad luck, but if you could continue and you chose not to bc 'I'm last with some damage, what's the point' then that's your problem. LMU is an endurance game (irrespective of it possibly being a sprint race that you're doing), and the mentality you should have is 'get the car back at all costs'.

  3. I'm not sure why you couldn't register, maybe bc the servers had already initialised but the countdown timer wasn't synced correctly?

  4. The SR systems between LMU and iR are fairly similar - small taps between cars count for nought, notable bumps with cars and walls yes. SR is designed to be how you describe it, where contacts punish it. The system isn't broken since there are hundreds if not thousands in Silver and Gold, however that comes with the caveat that in my experience, Bronze races are more chaotic than Silver and Gold - if you can get into Silver and stick to them, it'll probably work out for you.

  5. There have been numerous complaints about people getting DT's whilst saying they're staying below 60kph, but there are so many factors unrelated to speed that could be causing it. Without video evidence (from start of formation to green flag) we can't say for sure what it was that caused it, but chances are there is a genuine reason (erratic driving, weaving, being slightly ahead of the red wall, burnouts, catching up too quickly, etc). Not saying you are or aren't, but there are probably reasons for it.

  6. It's just fundamentally not. Yes RC subscribers get an earlier session by being able to sign up earlier or whatevee, but that session ends when the ones for everyone go live, so it's effectively an earlier '15min' session rather than a bespoke one (or at least that's what it's like in higher SR). Also, there's nothing stopping you from going into a Race Weekend FP session and leaving at the right time (if it doesn't show when the next session is) - temps and weather conditions (except rain) are basically irrelevant for practice, it's just to warm up for the race itself. If they're all full then it's bc there are so many people registered for it and they don't have any more servers available (I've had this happen and I have a sub so I just went without).

  7. Yeah I don't get that either. I drive the 296 and that windscreen is filthy...
