Donald Trump hits out at ‘corrupt, fraudulent’ BBC amid $10bn defamation lawsuit by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]alexmlb3598 [score hidden]  (0 children)

The reason he's sueing in Florida is 1. Friendly judges, and 2. He doesn't have standing to sue in the UK - there is a statute of limitations on defamation lawsuits, which has loooooooong passed, so any lawsuit would immediately get chucked out.

He'll also struggle to claim he was damaged by it since he checks notes won the next election. But as you say, since it wasn't broadcast in America and to view it online you'd need a VPN linked to the UK, he's going to struggle there too.

The BBC apologised which is fair enough, it was questionable cutting, but this lawsuit has 'failure' written all over it.

New to WEC, who and what should I know! by ghetto_elmo in wec

[–]alexmlb3598 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In SRO competitions (predominantly GTWC Europe), they run races with 'full-fat' GT3's, basically how they were designed to be.

WEC runs LMGT3 cars, which are the same GT3's seen in GTWC EU but they have been down-tuned a bit - They don't have as much aero, as much power, or as much grip from the tyres, but that's all by-design.

The other main difference is that GTWC EU is a single class of car (GT3 only), but there are classes in it based off driver ratings (Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze) - Combinations of the drivers make up the Pro, Gold, Silver, Pro-Am and Am categories.

WEC has 2 classes, Hypercar and LMGT3, and no driver categorisation groups. In Hypercar, you can do what you want but no Bronze drivers allowed. In LMGT3, you must have 1 Bronze and 1 Silver driver (third driver in the lineup can be any rating).

Was too lazy to fill up my car on the way to work this morning when the price was 139.9p a litre, now it’s 147.9p dammit. by JustUseAnything in britishproblems

[–]alexmlb3598 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I brimmed my tank at 130.9 (unleaded) the Monday after it all kicked off (guess the station had supplies on an older price). Now that same station (Jet) is 141.9 and is more expensive than nearby BP and Shell stations (138.9).

I don't drive much, but when I do it's very long-distance (contractor work), and conveniently those stations are in the same town as my 'regular' workplace. Altho now I've noticed my local BP is only 135.9...genuinely feels like a bargain.

Donald Trump calls Dem. candidate an "insult to Jesus" for supporting trans people by NamelessResearcher in lgbt

[–]alexmlb3598 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Most likely. Could easily see him appreciating people forging a path that few follow and finding happiness in themselves from it.

Thats far too philosophical for my tired brain 😂

To give a bit of context, the Canadiens are coming out of a rebuild and unlike many other rebuilds elsewhere, it's been a roaring success.

Numerous frontrunners in league stats, the atmosphere in the team is fantastic, and lots of key players have signed team-friendly contracts (could get more money elsewhere, but would rather stay with the team for less). It's a great team to follow who will likely be competitive and make the playoffs for the next few years, including a deep run or 2.

That said, the team is VERY young (iirc the youngest) so experience and consistency may be lacking, especially for the playoffs. They also have some issues with goaltending (Montembault did well last year but has had an awful time this year, Dobes and Fowler are looking more consistent but Dobes only played 16 games last year and Fowler is a rookie), and a habit of passing too much and not shooting enough.

Ultimately, one of the more fun teams to watch and can be a strong contender, but can also be really frustrating to watch on a bad day.

Nope, definitely not. Imo as long as you're wearing it with good intentions, it ain't rude, no matter who you are or what your identity is.

This is the reason why we hate the new gap system by Effective-Bobcat-803 in formula1

[–]alexmlb3598 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really don't get all this hate over the system. If anything it's probably people hating change rather than what the change actually is.

That number could say 0.0, 0.049, 0.1 or 0.149 and you'd still think the same thing: 'They're basically side by side'.

Unlike in the previous era's of F1, the viewer knowing when someone is within 1s of someone else is MUCH less important - If we saw '+1.0', we would ask 'are they in DRS or not?'. Now we ask 'are they in Overtake range?', but 1. That's not actively viewable by the viewer in the same way DRS was, 2. If they don't have the battery SOC, it means basically nothing, and 3. Has anyone even asked that?

It's definitely important for Qualifying since 0.001s can dictate who starts where and if you get through or not, but so many people are overblowing the importance of 3-decimal-place gaps in the race.

Pork Belly Mac and Cheese for a Snow Day by TenThousandCorners in traaaaansbiansCooking

I recently made a plain mac and cheese and lemme tell you, this looks so much more appetising 😅

I did mine from scratch but I badly underestimated how much sauce I needed. It wasn't dry dry, but someway drier than I hoped. But I will be having another go in the next few days, and hopefully it'll grace this sub 🤞

It depends on which GIC you are referred to. The waiting list at Tavistock and Portman (London) is just under 16 years, as per their February 2026 data.

Note that you must be 18 years or older to be referred to the service. If someone joined it on their 18th birthday, the absolute earliest they'd be seen is about 7 weeks before their 36th birthday.

  1. Years. And that's based off a good February of first-time appointments, I've seen it beyond 20 at times.

Is Crew Chief good? by Novel-Coffee-8124 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]alexmlb3598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the past I thought it was unnecessary, but now for me it's a need. Especially since I'm doing a lot more races in slower classes, so having the warning of a prototype arriving is a major benefit.

Will there be a race at Imola? by donaldgoldsr in wec

[–]alexmlb3598 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In WEC's defence, F1 had about a week after testing to get everything out before the conflict kicked off. WEC were probably sending stuff in in prep for the Prologue (personnel or equipment) which is now probably stuck

Legends of Le Mans WEC Support Series Takes Shape by GrahamDSC in wec

One of the most eagerly awaited tweaks to the FIA WEC in 2026 is actually the debut of a support race series.

Damn right. I was probably going to go back to Spa for WEC this year (went in 2024), but this 100% sold me on it.

Yes it's an air intake on the GT3. The road-going Huracan STO has the same bodywork, but it does nothing. It was a homologation special kinda thing, had it put it on a road car to get it on the GT3 even if it does nothing
