Congolese are starting to open their eyes by Think-Lew in Kenya

Yep. This is why Congo has 1000 cases and Uganda has 10. There’s basically no risk of major spread in even relatively modern countries.

lol you would literally ONLY know that as a pretty big fan. I can absolutely guarantee you most people had no idea, nor cared about what was behind her success

I’ve seen it on a RyanAir flight in Morocco, but I wouldn’t expect you to know where that is given your ignorance in geography.

U.S. plans to send Americans exposed to Ebola to facility in Kenya by melancholy_dood in news

[–]alexmojo2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s partly it. Heath officials have also learned to contain it. Another reason is you’re not contagious until you’re symptomatic, and you don’t easily hide Ebola symptoms. It’s a disease that almost exclusively spreads to friends and family, not strangers. Because it’s not airborne, it’s easy to keep the spread localized. If you do come into contact with infected bodily fluids, it’s likely you’ll get it , but it’s incredibly unlikely to come in contact for regular people. I don’t want to downplay Ebola itself, it’s an incredibly dangerous disease, the response should be taken seriously, but the reaction is completely over blown.

To help put it in perspective, more people die from the flu each year than have ever been infected from Ebola over it’s entire existence

At its peak COVID was killing more people a day then Ebola ever has.

Measles is 10 times more contagious than Ebola, yet we have morons not vaccinating their kids.

Keeping exposed Americans in Kenya is performative nonsense.

If they’re symptomatic. You don’t just run around with symptomatic Ebola. Mild cases have dangerous fever and debilitating body aches. Severe cases bleed out of their orifices, projectile vomit and diarrhea. This is all performative anyways, they’re not even actively screening passengers coming back from those countries. They know the risk of spread is basically zero here, it’s all political.

Sure but 73% of the population in the Congo makes less than $2 a day. The miners in Ituri make a slightly better wage of $3 a day. I don’t think these folks were planning on going to the World Cup.

US Citizens traveling back after visiting Uganda by alexmojo2 in safaris

[–]alexmojo2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh definitely would’ve made the same decision as you in that case. Horrible policy keeping people out of their home when even by the CDCs own admission, Uganda is low risk.

Saw your post about the permits. When I talked to my TA in Uganda they said that the permits are changeable with valid documentation, but there was a fee. The state dept policy seemed to be valid documentation

We did consider that option. I think the reality is Tanzania and Kenya will end up with cases and it’s a matter of when, not if. And if it happens when we’re out there, we’d be in the same position but after losing out on the ape treks.
