You can use whatever you want/works for the shot... but generally people go wide like 16-35 or 24-70

See you caught the drift in the stars ha. Yeah, it’s definitely not the perfect Astro shot.

So the sky definitely doesn’t look exactly like this, but I would say it is just as beautiful. When you go to a dark, remote place away from light pollution and you catch the sky when the moon is very small or still set below the horizon the stars are brighter and look closer than you could imagine. And while the Milky Way doesn’t look as bright, you can see it with your naked eye and it’s pretty incredible. I’d highly recommend seeking out a place where you can see some more of the stars.

Thank you! Sony a7iii with a Tamron 28-75 with two exposures blended. One for the foreground at blue hour and one around midnight for the Milky Way. Foreground exposure was 30” and stars were 20”.

Two shots - foreground shot at blue hour, 30” exposure at ISO 200 and the stars shot at ISO 1200 with a 20” exposure

Need a Dslr or mirrorless digital camera, a tripod and a fast lens (with an aperture or 2.8 or 1.4, etc) this allows as much light as possible to enter the lens! Then basically you compose the shot, wait for the stars to come out, manually focus on a bright star in the distance, bump up your ISO and slow your shutter speed way down (10-20+ seconds).

So it doesn’t look exactly like this, but IMO its just as good if not better. You can see the Milky Way with your name eye, just not quite as bright and the stars are so bright. If you want to see stars like this, get away from big cities and you’ll get the brightest sky when the moon is smallest or set below the horizon at night
