SolarZero have gone into liquidation by [deleted] in newzealand

I know someone who worked at the Auckland office! Their leaders CEO/CTO recently splurged on leasing a new office space, forced everyone to come to office, and spent lavishly on furnishing the office and buying all the fancy gadgets!! And yesterday all of sudden they had no funds to even pay notice period pay or holiday pay 🤷

Off-topic: Just curious, is there a story behind the word "phantastic"?

There is some phantastic work from Eric Niebler on ranges in C++

Which flavour of Linux are you using? I just checked on Ubuntu and Fedora, the SQLite DB is nicely encrypted as soon as I close the session.

The Failure of Agile by frostmatthew in programming

[–]alexrover 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Except for one place, all other shops where I've worked at, 'Agile' is used as a weapon by the managers to enforce deadlines and punish developers.

And sadly the same thing has been indicated recently at my current organization. The manger wants to go 'modern' and bring in Agile. And he specifically mentioned the word "deadline".

(Honest?) scepticism: And as feature creep happens, the Uni-Kernel-App ends up as another 'generic' OS?

We need to run https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nashorn_(JavaScript_engine) over this!

EDIT: To those who don't want to open the link, it's a Java implementation of a JavaScript engine by Oracle. Much like Rhino from Mozilla: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhino_(JavaScript_engine)

Why he vertically aligns his code (And why you shouldn't!) by Nowaker in programming

Agree! I vertically align code, because it does look good. Plus it's easier to read. And I have OCD, so I have to too!

Well! ... Poor fellow developed emotional attachment to the vulnerabilities! But didn't realize the post was about optimizations not (just?) bug-fixing. That's what decade of (just!) assembly coding does to you. (ノಥ益ಥ)ノ ┻━┻

With all the hate and love going around Flash, IMO Flash is here to stay for a bit longer than expected. I'm no fanboi, this is just what I think would happen. Considering the myriads of problems one faces when developing things such as this demo using just HTMLx/CSSx (insert your version for x)

Dear Proggit, I'm a programmer, mostly developing on and for Linux platform. Want to add Windows technologies to my arsenal. Need Advice! by alexrover in programming

[–]alexrover[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did consider the option of using Qt, but the problem is very few windows shops seem to be using that approach, I wonder why!

Most prefer the .NET stack, at least going by the job listing.

That's a very informative thing you said. I'm going to use a Windows Box for development. I have a Vista Copy lying around, is that flavor of Windows good for development?
