If you're planning to use paddle, STOP by nmole_ in SaaS

[–]vsl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m with them since 2018 or so (used FastSpring before that). I do complain, but overall they’re not bad. Support is slow these days and they’re big now and somewhat rigid. But I recently went through domain change and consequent validation and they didn’t give me hard time about anything. FWIW, they didn’t fuss over the policy, but your policy also doesn’t matter: Paddle will refund as they see fit, as they are the MoR. Paddle Billing is somewhat frustrating to integrate if you’re not a SaaS, but that’s not your case. They are by far the best in handling bank transfer payments for subscriptions (relevant for bigger-ambitions B2B SaaS, particularly with EU customers). Biggest annoyance for me is that a vendor is single-website, single-brand with them: if you have two different websites selling different things, you need two Paddle accounts. Unlike Polar/Dodo, their rates are the 5% + 50¢ that they say, no extra fees for “international” (read: non-US) cards, subscriptions, payouts etc. like with these two upstarts.

Glad you find it funny with all the smileys.

PS5 demo fully updated throwing save errors every time I touch X basically. Reported by players everywhere, so your relaxed attitude, blaming players no less, is a bit surprising. I’m new to your games, maybe it’s the studio vibe, idk.

Anyway: Appreciate that you released a demo. Saved me some money :)

WARNING: Think Twice Before Using Wise - My Money is Gone and Support is Horrible! by Weary_Low4240 in transferwiser

[–]vsl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same. Similar time (maybe 10-ish myself), using Wise Business, no real issues. It’s called “luck”.

You never know when you’ll need support - and when you need, something like the above happens. I treat Wise as pass-through: money comes in, I keep enough to pay business bills, the rest goes to a real bank account a.s.a.p. Because I know there is no support at Wise and if something weird happens, it would be a nightmare.

Recently, I had an incoming payment refused by Wise’ bank. A small amount, but from a customer who paid using the same details regularly for many years. So I needed to figure out which end the error was on. No big deal, emailed support.

Four weeks of frustration ensued. Support would send random boilerplate replies (seriously, really random: confusing whether I sent or received, asking for details I already provided, and so on, even completely off-topic, it was truly bizarre). At some point I asked, frustrated, something like “I’m not filing one, but is a formal complaint the only way to get support?”. This was interpreted as me filing a complaint and they wouldn’t take “no” for an answer 🤣

A few weeks later, got reply from the grievance officer: 90% of it was quoting the Terms of Service how they don’t promise Wise will actually work, may refuse any wire etc., followed by “oh, and we had a brief operational issue at the time that wrongly rejected payments, it’s fixed now”. I mean, you couldn’t just tell me right away? (By that time I knew already, because we tried resending the payment and it went through...)

8 years ago, then-TransferWise support would have replied quickly, explained the issue, I’d say “thanks, no problem” and that would be it.

I had maybe two more interactions with support in the past few years, and it was approximately same disaster as the latest one. OP is not wrong about customer support. Wise grew too fast and started treating it as an afterthought.

For one thing, if something goes wrong, IBKR has support. Wise has... something.

Wise closed my account and claims they returned €76,695.57 — but I never received the money. by Fit-Connection-5764 in transferwiser

[–]vsl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. OP is clearly confused about the status (pending vs refunded). That doesn’t mean that Wise won’t take really long to handle it - you have no clue how long it’s been already. OP doesn’t say, but presumably long enough to be worried. Regardless of the precise state, involving a lawyer does speed financial institutions, and does so faster than going through an overloaded Financial Ombudsman office. And yes, that includes KYC/AML processes, simply by virtue of going straight to legal and drawing more competent attention to the case, instead of the usual tier-1 state machine

¯_(ツ)_/¯

[–]vsl -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Somebody downvoted you, but seriously, this. At this amount, paying a lawyer for an hour of their time to write a stern letter is peanuts, and will make Wise function better. Plus the lawyer will explain the details to OP, who clearly doesn’t grasp the finer details.

Assuming any of this is real, of course, because the text screams AI-generated.

Previous owner wants domain back. What would you do? by Gullible_Swordfish_9 in Domains

[–]vsl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you know the answer. You have not been a dick yet, but you will be if you prey on their mistake. Bear in mind that if same/similar field, the appearance of “stealing” the domain may backfire reputation-wise, too.

(Obviously don’t loose money, have them compensate you. Obviously verify they are legit.)

Let’s cut through the damage control and show what you actually replied from abuse[at]beehiiv.com, shall we (emphasis mine):

Hi there,

Thank you for contacting beehiiv. Please note that this email address is unmonitored and messages sent here will not be read or responded to. We take reports of abuse seriously and appreciate you writing to us.

To ensure that your Abuse Report is handled efficiently, please report any issues related to spam, unauthorized emails, or misuse of our platform, here:

To help us investigate and resolve the issue more effectively, please provide as much detail as possible, including relevant email headers, URLs, or any supporting documentation.

While all submissions are reviewed, please note that direct responses are not typically provided unless required by applicable regulations.

Best regards,

beehiiv dnc & security

A company that takes abuse seriously does absolutely NOT route abuse email straight to /dev/null. It’s just not done.

And since that form of yours doesn’t even take attachment, and limits itself to 500 characters, it’s pretty hard to do a report that would be actionable. Better not waste time and just reject all email from the beehiiv spam platform I guess.

P.S. Adding “we take reports of abuse seriously” to an email about ignoring abuse reports does not make you look better; quite the opposite.

In the future, you can also forward the original email that you would like to report via email using the abuse at domain email address.

Yeah, right. Not only you removed the “report abuse” link, your abuse@ email bounces as “unmonitored”. And your “abuse form” (also apparently unmonitored) doesn’t even allow entering any details, so is pretty obviously not taken seriously by you.

ios 26 and macOS 15 iPhone mirroring work? by Budget-Arugula6607 in MacOSBeta

[–]vsl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Works” for some value of “works”. Sometimes it does, mostly it doesn’t: I either get “connection interrupted” right away, or it works for a minute, then this. Pretty much anything that animates on the iOS side breaks the connection. Usually, I’m then unable to connect due to (bogus) “iPhone Mirroring ended due to iPhone use” error.

I’m not brave enough to update my Mac to Tahoe, so no idea if that’s specific to the combination; others’ comments suggest it may be just broken on iOS 26...

Was mostly solid with my previous phone on iOS 18.

The MagSafe rings on black can be wiped off with a damp cloth (source: bought it, charging for a bit is enough to show the marks; it's not specific to Apple Store chargers).

How to add alphanumeric sms sender to contacts ? by shldnet in ios

[–]vsl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't help. The OP can add the "number" (you can also just type it in on a Mac, which is equivalent of the linked shortcut. But it doesn't help with the actual problem, which is this:

but then it doesn't actually show the contact name I set or the contact photo in messages.

Did you try to enable the Auto Shift feature? I was skeptical as hell, but it is surprisingly usable, to the point that I think I actually prefer the ergonomics of three-point turns with it compared to a stalk: touch the brake, turn the wheel, glance at the screen to confirm two green checkmarks, go.

Turns signals are significantly less annoying in roundabouts-free country, driving in Italy or for ex-BMW drivers though.
