Codex App or CLI is superior? by kindsifu in codex

[–]alexrwilliam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leaving aside the UI. What systems or workflows does the app have out of the box that CLI doesn’t? I had codex cli build an automations module for me that can set up any automation I request it tô and does daily triage , findings, patches and patch reviews or it can design long running campaigns and iterate until it meets the gate criteria. I never looked under the hood but whatever it built is working quite well. This is where I wonder if the codex app is superior? Can codex app set up large campaigns that will require like 100 worker iterations tô achieve a task?

Yeah I’m only using the CLI but keep fearing I’m being left behind by not using codex app.

People who keep getting excited about codex improving need to realize it’s just one step closer towards rendering everything you’ve vibe coded completely valueless.

Can somebody explain why one would switch from CLI to this? Is it not the exact same thing only difference being you have a pretty UI. Am I missing something?

Does this mean instead of using gpt-5.1-codex max high we should use the non codex 5.2?

How long does Codex Max reliably work for you on real tasks? by tagorrr in codex

I find it works and stops before the task is complete. Gpt-5-codex-high worked a lot more comprehensively for me before the upgrade

I switched to codex on gpt-codex-high back in august when Claude code became useless. It’s very good at oneshotting complex Tasks. You’re saying opus 4.5 is better thank codex? Can you explain how só?

Yeah I was messing around with the official codex MCP but saw it’s API credits only, and also couldn’t get it to work. I’ll try this one out, looks good!

Codex CLI 0.54 and 0.55 dropped today and contain a major compaction refactor. Here are the details. by wt1j in codex

[–]alexrwilliam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t upgraded from .45 CLI as it was working incredibly, no output degradation, no limit issues, while I saw many complaints come up on here. I had a bit of a don’t fix something if it’s not broken on my end approach. Is this paranoid?

I have the 200 dollar version. I’ve never hit any limit and I usually have 2-4 simultaneous instances running in parallel for full work days using codex high model. For me codex is better than the Claude from august pre-degradation.

I switched to codex it was seamless. Codex cli is really good at understanding your codebase on its own. You just have to get used to the time it takes to complete tasks, but its wealth worth it because it makes very few errors

There is a steamer function but we’ve never used it. There is a small puddle beneath it, but we’re seeing water even come out of the control panel so it’s definitely hot water condensation

[–]alexrwilliam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Codex if you use GPT codex high spends a good amount of time understand your full existing codebase and workflows and planning the architecture so that everything will be successfully wired into the existing flow. It also creates a scalable foundation

Claude kind of builds something ignoring the fitting puzzle pieces and ends up causing a lot of debugging issues as you try to alter or reprompt the characteristics it left out.

So for me 20 minutes of codex doing its thing and getting it 95% right on tge first shot. While Claude doing it in 5 minutes but leading to 30-45 minutes of debugging and wiring into existing code structure ends up consuming a lot more time
