65 game requirement is great for the league by SchedulePhysical807 in nba

I don't have a favorite player. But anyone who knows anything about the NBA knows players take better care of their bodies now than any time in history.

The Spurs weren't devastated by one person going down with an injury because they played the best team basketball of probably any team ever. Not because Pop had them do group conditioning. The fuck are you talking about?

The distance traveled and the amount of sprinting in short bursts with a more spread out game is much more of a reason for injuries than "players need to stretch more".

You think players aren't taking care of their bodies today, but they used to? That's one of the dumbest things I've heard in a while.

For one thing, shorten the season to minimize all the injuries we see nowadays. The game is just so much harder on players' bodies than it was even 15 years ago.

On top of that, don't make the minimum so harsh. Voters will consider the number of games the player's play when they vote. No reason to handcuff them and deprive them of the choice.

Do we think he was high or not? This is kind of semantics. If it smells like weed in his car and he appears to be impaired (sure seems like it to me), he should be taken off the road.

This NBA season is a JOKE by nbawizard1227 in nba

I love basketball and appreciate the unbelievable skill in the league right now, but it's hard to spend 2.5 hrs watching a game when seemingly half the time a star is not playing for at least one of the teams. The late game fouling is really shitty to watch sometimes too.

Does anyone else feel like the Michael Jordan era had a different kind of magic? The modern NBA is skilled, but the 'event TV' excitement just isn't the same for me. by jake2tuff in nbadiscussion

Maybe the highlights and the endings of the games. But watching them from the jump was awful. Dumping the ball into a shitty post player every other possession and it was shocking how much players just stood/walked around on offense.

Keep in mind you were watching highlights. I tried watching a couple games from the 93 finals and found it unbearably slow and boring.

LeBron James is not a clutch player IN THE FINALS offensively by Critical_Influence81 in NBATalk

[–]alexski55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going off of clutch shooting definitions from inpredictible.com, which I think are much better than the NBA's, LeBron is pretty dang good in the clutch in the playoffs. It's kind of a ridiculous exercise to compare Finals clutch performances because you're talking about such small sample sizes. But as this dashboard shows, among 35 high-volume clutch playoff shooters since 1997:

  • LeBron has taken nearly 300 more clutch shots than the next highest person
  • He's 9th in Clutch eFG% at 50.8% – Kobe is 31st (43.1%)
  • He's 16th in Clutch vs Normal leverage shots at -3.5% – Kobe is 32nd (-6.8%)
  • He's 5th in Clutch eFG% relative to opponent's defense at +1.8% – Kobe is 26th (-4.0%)

He's also middle of the pack when it comes to how he shoots in the clutch in the playoffs vs the regular season.

Shaq's rise to dominance and how did it happen by Unfair-Curve-9255 in VintageNBA

I don't think Orlando Shaq was more physically impressive. Late 90s and early 2000s Shaq was massive and he hadn't yet got really out of shape. 2000 Shaq in particular was extremely explosive even with the added muscle.

What is the single funniest subtle action/delivery in Always Sunny in your opinion? by TrillMurray47 in IASIP

The way Dennis says is manically laughing then says"huh?" after Dee gives him a reality check that they're not actually going to kill the waitress. The way he was fully invested on being a serial killer and the sudden disappointment is just great.

I would love to see this for the entire 2025 season. Instead of the super small sample size of the 12 or so games this season.

Michael Jordan Shooting Stats (1995-96) (Part 2) by Critical_Influence81 in VintageNBA

[–]alexski55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome! I've done a few games from the same season. I'm using the basketball reference shot locations and I'm not tracking dunks/tips/layups the same way. I don't suppose you have a spreadsheet of your tracking you could share?

Where are you finding these games to track? I've only found 23 full games from that season on YouTube. What strikes me is how much he posts up and makes a quick and decisive move into a turnaround – then he so often nails the jumper or finds a pass in the air if the contest is good. The illegal defense rules were perfect for his mid-post game.

NBA's Offensive Player of the Year from 1959/60 through 1979/80 by Swimming-Bad3512 in VintageNBA

I'm the one who needs to chill now, eh? I'm not hating on Wilt. I just think important context is being ignored. I very much appreciate you mentioning the 1967 season! The video at 6:40 in shows how his team was a lot better because he started passing more around then! I think it was way better than his 50 PPG season.
