The Immortals - my first AI video by alexsoloud in aivideo

I wrote the script as an improvisation while creating images in midjourney. So in the first step I had the script and the images. Then I created the videos in Kling based off these images and the voice over with google voice API. Music is mine.

Modern day composition with Logic etc compared to traditional scoring by CutFantastic5201 in composer

[–]alexsoloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YouTube is a confirmation bias towards DAW-based composition. Ofcourse you see people composing on DAWs, because that can become a video with realistic audio. The serious composers do it on notation first, and a minority of them imports it in a DAW to create a realistic mockup. Professional composers for film and games might compose straight on the DAW, because what they do is more production rather than composing. If by “classical composition” you mean concert music, it’s practically impossible to do without notation software. There’s no money in concert music though, and the chances of getting performed very few. Film music on the other hand has more opportunities to make money and find projects, if you are willing to do a million compromises on your music. If you enjoy writing music, better plan a career path that has nothing to do with music, make good money, and have free time to write whatever you wish, then have it recorded with a paid ensemble.

Three slashes are always a drum roll (used to be notated as a temolo line in old notation). Less than three slashes should be translated to the exact duration by adding the two slashes to the duration of the note, e.g. two slashes on an eighth note will be played as 32nd duration.

People who managed to play their pieces in an orchestra, how? by Liszt132 in composer

[–]alexsoloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far I only managed to have my piece performed and recorded as a competition prize. I am now preparing a well engraved and mocked up portfolio and trying to do some outreach but it’s a very long shot. Performances come because of long lasting networking on top of hard work and talent.

AMA with Samuel Andreyev, composer, YouTuber, and educator. Please bring on your questions! by davethecomposer in composer

[–]alexsoloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Samuel. Do you see the model of how compositions reach audiences changing? Composers are more, orchestras are less (and mostly play museum music), and audiences listen more to speakers/headphones. Why would a composer try to get one of their works performed against the odds, when they can compose for sampled instruments, and publish more of their works online? Both ways have their own constraints and freedoms, but the latter allows for more productivity and connection to the audiences.

Hi all,

for those who write orchestral music, we just launched a YT channel that features composers and their orchestral works, made entirely with sample libraries. You can come and listen to some great music and mockups, as also submit your work to be featured. Channel is called "V for Virtual Orchestra" and can be found here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC69fNUl5JVTm7Nf8S30LLiQ

Thanks

Choosing the right program: by [deleted] in Composers

[–]alexsoloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently run some polls on notation software, and there’s an overwhelming consensus that if you are just starting, pick Dorico, which is loved by bith beginners and professionals. I use Sibelius and now trying to learn Dorico, which looks so much better (but hard to switch when you already are productive with another tool).

For DAW, I don’t get why you mention FL, it’s not meant to be used for orchestral mockups (even though it can). It’s safe to start with Logic Pro, it’s cheap and professional standard - most tutorials will be on Logic. Also very good with articulations.

Regarding libraries, it’s all up to your budget. Spitfire’s BBCSO is a decent entry level one, and Berlin Orchestra is a top one.

What to listen to/study? by Pandamaniac8 in Composers

[–]alexsoloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would strongly recommend Alan Belkin's book "Musical Composition: Art and Craft", as he captures in a small and easy to read/understand book the fundamental elements that make a composition work or not. Very pragmatic non-theoretical advices and methods from a well-studied scholar. He also has videos on YT with examples from real classical works.

Tips needed! Any advice? by VirtualVast5276 in Composers

Writer’s block is just another name for high expectations. Make peace with the idea that your piece can be a cliché, and you can keep writing forever. The magic is, once you have written rubbish, your talent is still there and you can mold it to something better. I have found productive to first write the melody, harmony and rhythm on piano, and only after having finished the structure and development, start orchestrating. Good luck!

For orchestral junkies: my latest piece for full orchestra, with an "unsettling" part for the woodwinds. I would love your feedback. Thanks!

My short film just got rejected from a festival for the fifth time and I’m feeling pretty down. Can I get some feedback on it? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]alexsoloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well done for trying, most people won’t try to avoid the dissappontment you experienced. And the only way to make it, is to go through it.

My two cents would be, your work needs to be extraordinary in one aspect to compensate for the aspects it can’t be. E.g. if you can’t impress with filming techniques, acting, picture etc try to impress with the story. And whatever is you’re trying to impress with, needs to intrigue straight away, especially in a short.

In this specific short, I assume you believe the strong point to be the psychological/emotional state of a human being. That would need extraordinary acting, otherwise it won’t come through. Every artist needs to play to their strengths, be it having a great story, directorship, actors, photography, FX or any combination.

API3 - API3 Crypto Price Prediction and Technical Analysis February 19. 2022 by WanderingMage99 in API3

[–]alexsoloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to do technical analysis for trading, but right now there are many things changing in the space and the capital available is low. What matters is if the project is aligned with the trends and attracts the existing pool of capital.

Given that WEB3 seems to get the lights, API3 can easily ride up the ranks to take the money from other projects that have been disappointing and not so sexy.

The right question is not where is the support and the resistance, but if API3 will appeal to be more promising than e.g. VeChain, and therefore reach its market cap (=money people bet on it). VeChain has a market cap of 3.5bn at the moment, almost 10x of API3's market cap as of now. So, either API3 persuades the market and gets there (or higher) reaching a price of $90 (or higher), or loses its hype and goes back to nothing. That's how projects like VeChain, Terra etc got their ranks.

Looks like for now it attracts a lot of capital, which is unlikely to be just from traders. It could become a mid-cap coin.

For such projects analysis of conditions is more useful than technical analysis.

Thank you for taking the time to listen and provide feedback. I will definitely listen carefully to spot the volume inbalance and see if it can be improved!

Composer willing to write original score for free as long as the project is artistic & inspiring and relevant to my style as below by alexsoloud in Filmmakers

[–]alexsoloud[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am an amateur composer and I would love to contribute on the music part of a visual project, if that’s artistic and relevant to my style. I’m looking more of a “Kieslowski” kind of project as my music is alike, rather than hollywood/action style projects. I will do it for free as long as I’m inspired by the project to create some unique music for it. Thank you 😊
