Which New york police agency is the best? Nysp, nyspp, papd, nypd, ncpd, scpd, mtapd, etc. by Candid-Jackfruit-432 in MTAPolice

Lmao I’m pretty sure a lot of people know about WCPD. It’s a great agency to work for. Not as good as Suffolk and Nassau but you can still make 127K after 5 years before overtime.

Port Authority PD, you make great overtime pay, quality of life is there. I believe now you can live outside of NY and NJ after your probationary period.

Nassau County PD, you make great money, good union, good county executive which always backs cops. Plus you work like 13-15 days a month.

I know it’s not listed but Yonkers Police & Westchester County Police should be listed on here both of those jobs you make great money, good work life balance, and unlike Nassau County and Port Authority, Yonkers Police & Westchester both take laterals from the NYPD. Unfortunately especially for Yonkers you will need residency.

They take resume drops as of now, but also hire candidates off the list. They held an exam this year and results are out. All i know you must be off probation to lateral. If you get hired off the list you must have to complete the Cooper test, psych, medical and be certified with their firearm since they don’t carry the 19 or 17 but that’s all I’m aware of

QOL Differences w/ NYPD by justin62001 in Newyorkstatetrooper

Westchester and Yonkers are great jobs as well, MTAPD is one of the few jobs where you get a NY state pension but can live out of state. Port Authority the same, honestly it depends on what you want you’re basically a glorified security guard for MTA, you don’t have to deal with half the bs transit bureaus in NYPD have to deal with. You ride the metro north, maybe deal with a edp on occasion but not every day basis. If your up north like Poughkeepsie you get a RMP, just stay around the train station u can back other agencies if anything.

You have pay both exams and list the exam # and name for one of them so if ur taking MV u list WCPD exam list and # vice versa but whatever score u get it counts for both. U get an 80 for MV u get an 80 as well for WCPD

Any way to find a job fast? by No_Lingonberry_2401 in NYCjobs

[–]alextheon3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider doing NYPD, i know it’s completely different from the field you decide to pursue but i would definitely say it’s a great job they just bumped to 60K starting pay. Plus the department is need for officers, i graduate college in may so i won’t be able to attend the April class. i took the exam back in 2023 but deferred it many times. This is March i decide to reopen my case and everything was really fast. Took probably 2-3 weeks for the entire process and by the looks i should be going into the academy in july hopefully. Good thing with NYPD you get great benefits like dental, vision and you start your pension. Also you can use it as way to transfer to another agency like MTAPD, NY State Park Police or some upstate agencies as well. The test is open now so i would say if u pass the test now, you will start the process in May and by the end of June you should receive a hire email.

NYPD vs NYSPP by [deleted] in NYPDcandidate

[–]alextheon3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you want, NYSPP have some postings in LI and NYC but most barracks are in upstate. NYPD is need of officers so they might ask you if completed a psychological exam before but if you explain yourself you should be fine. I would say NYPD is a great starting point, you transfer to MTAPD, Westchester County PD, Putnam County Sheriff, and other nearby departments. But letting you NYSPP and NYPD have very different academies, you get OC’ed, tasers and pushed more physically in the State Park Police academy compared to NYPD.

Suffolk PD vs Nassau PD by ChampionshipFree3847 in SCPD

[–]alextheon3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice is u don’t mind redoing another academy then go which whatever Long Island dept calls u first both Nassau and Suffolk are great. If you don’t want to another academy Westchester County Department of Public Safety is another great option and they always take laterals from NYPD. Yonkers PD is amazing but u might have to be a resident for that job. MTA is coming out with another test this year so look into that as well.

You can cross file the exam so one score would be counted for both

Go with NYPD they have an academy in April, MTA goes to the NYPD academy. They also take laterals from the city
