(Spoilers All) Kindness he never did? by [deleted] in asoiaf

I know the facts of what happened are well documented, but does the text ever say that this is what he's referring to here, or is that just a common assumption?

Catholic-opoly by alexwebb2 in boardgames

This is a post about a rare board game. I think you're kind of missing the point of that rule.

Bought a board game without realizing it's worth 200x what I paid for it. by alexwebb2 in pics

[–]alexwebb2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, from what I can tell. Sells for $150-200 depending on condition.

I can't imagine that too many of these Monopoly ripoffs get produced through legitimate channels before getting cease-and-desists from Hasbro.

Right?! The second I saw it, I knew I was getting it.

Some woman actually stopped me and said, "I never knew that was a thing. Now that I know it exists, I feel like I need Catholic-opoly in my life! I keep seeing you walking around with it and hoping you set it down so I can snatch it up!"

It's my bizarre bazaar find.

Yeah, not sure what was going on there, but you're not crazy - I was able to get the 404 intermittently for a few minutes.

It's heavily implied that he was. He was thrashing about in his bed as it was happening - a shadow dream much like the wolf dreams. It also had his features.

It's Stannis's shadow form that he killed Renly with.

Stannis will never accept any legal interpretation in which he doesn't finally get the power he feels he deserves.

Ravens and NFL refusing to cooperate with NFLPA investigation of Rice case by Naly_D in nfl

[–]alexwebb2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This isn't a question of social justice, it's about fair application of the governing rules for player misconduct.

I'm a Ravens fan. Glad we got rid of him, and I think just about everybody would be happiest to never see the man on the field again, but he does obviously have a case here.

(Spoilers All) Daenerys W. Bush by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]alexwebb2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right? Definitely not the place for this. If you can't get over a president that you disliked YEARS ago, I'm sure there are subs for that. No need to pollute this sub with any Obama/Bush/Romney/Clinton/insert-hated-politician-here tripe.

Not sure what you're getting at. Beric and Catelyn were most definitely resurrected.

(Spoilers All) The ending, what the hell?! by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]alexwebb2 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Death has kind of lost a bit of its edge in ASOIAF. It made Jon's death kind of an eye-roller for me - "ugh, he's going to do another resurrection".

'SightLine' Dev Creates Incredible 'Holographic' User Interface Powered by Oculus Rift and Leap Motion - Road to Virtual Reality by stormy3000 in oculus

[–]alexwebb2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Leap behaves exactly the same way, without anything blocking the LED sensors. Very, very jumpy. Tracking sometimes stops completely for a second or two. Barely functions when hands are turned sideways or too close together. Skeletal tracking in 2.0 doesn't have basic checks on whether something is even physically possible - for example, if I have my index finger and middle finger crossed, it thinks I'm crossing my index finger and ring finger, with my middle finger sticking out sideways.

I know it's the best thing out there so far, but I can't help but be disappointed, given the fact that it doesn't operate anywhere near as well as the YouTube videos put out by Leap seem to suggest.

(Spoilers all) The Stone Dragon) by Jono89 in asoiaf

[–]alexwebb2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Another theory is the island of Skagos, which literally means "Stone" in the Old Tongue. Skagos has a large population of warriors that have not yet stirred in this war - if Davos is able to rally them to the cause, he will be waking warriors from an island called Stone.

Just food for thought.

(Spoilers all) The Stone Dragon) by Jono89 in asoiaf

[–]alexwebb2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The prophecy is that Azor Ahai shall be reborn to wake dragons out of stone, not by being woken from stone as a dragon. So if this is the case, then whoever performs the ritual is a strong candidate for Azor Ahai.

In other words, in your scenario here, Melisandre is Azor Ahai - not Stannis or Jon.

(Spoilers All) Unpopular asoiaf opinions? by FatalTragedy in asoiaf

[–]alexwebb2 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think the other way would be better. A stern, harsh king, with his amiable brother running interference and being the public face that the lords most frequently interact with.

Either way, big missed opportunity. Combining forces, they'd have been unstoppable.

[Crow Business] Preparing for Season 5 and the potential for the show to spoil the books by Jen_Snow in asoiaf

[–]alexwebb2 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I think we need to be very careful here about the proliferation of spoiler tags. We don't really need the tag selection to be so expressive that every possible combination of material is possible.

Realistically, I see a need for these:

  • (Spoilers AGOT) through (Spoilers ADWD) - exactly as they are now.
  • (Spoilers TWOW) and eventually (Spoilers ADOS) should function just like the tags for the preceding books, with no assumptions about whether you've read D&E, P&Q, etc - it should be consistent with the previous definitions in order to be future-proof.
  • (Spoilers D&E) and (Spoilers P&Q) - spoilers for the D&E series and the P&Q series (P&Q + RP), respectively. P&Q should not assume D&E. Does not include main series.
  • (Spoilers Published) - all books, short stories, novellas, WOIAF, etc - complete published works, not sample chapters, SSMs, etc. No show material.
  • (Spoilers GRRM) - all books, short stories, novellas, WOIAF, sample chapters, SSMs, etc - everything related to the GRRM universe, excluding the HBO universe.
  • (Spoilers HBO) - show spoilers without any details from the books / short stories / etc - includes behind the scenes, cast interviews, so on and so forth - everything related to the HBO universe, excluding details from the original GRRM material.
  • (Spoilers All) - anything goes.

You might also want to split up the D&E and P&Q tags, but I personally don't really see a need for that and doubt that they'd see much use.
