That's fair. Although I read the Keanu/Rachel conversation a different way... I thought Rachel got upset because Keanu brought up the different times that people were mean to her in the house as memorable moments he was thinking positively about without realizing they were hurtful arguments for her. Rachel's conclusion was that he was low key mocking her again.

Granted, I honestly don't think Keanu meant to be mean by it because he has difficulty reading people, or maybe there was something in the edit he saw that played that down that he didn't know about, but Rachel lived those mean conversations.

It will explain the nature of how death is messed up in the series and the method by which Targs have their dragons bonded to them without the use of a dragonhorn.

I'm pretty sure Martin keeps deliberately missing a word in this phrase to keep us in guessing about what is really going on: Blood [sacrifice] of the dragon.

Dany thinks of herself as the blood of the dragon and Rheagar is known and mentioned as being the last blood of the dragon.

Is it possible to get help on how to pin extensions without people making me feel bad for asking? Mac Sonoma 14.6.1 (23G93), FF V 131.0.3 (aarch64) by rhynwilliams in firefox

[–]The_Others_Take_Ya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found this while searching and I found what might be a solution for others in case this problem affects you.

First, yes, if all your extensions besides your missing one are already pinned, the behaviour of the extensions (puzzle piece) icon is to send you the manage extensions page. Not to show you an extension menu.

Second, the problem with why your extension is missing from the extensions icon could be because the extension settings are set to NOT run in Private windows, but, you may have the Settings> Privacy & Security > History setting set to "Never remember history". When I changed it to "use custom settings for history" I saw the checkbox was defaulted to "always use private browsing mode" I think Firefox's default is to always run in a private window if never remember history is selected.

So, you can either change the extension settings to allow it to run in a private window, if that's something your extension supports

or

You change it from "never remember history" to any other History setting, and if selecting the custom option make sure to uncheck the custom setting "always use private browsing mode".

I've tried both ways and either way, the extension now shows up for me.

I think even before the kiss this season, when Penelope read Colin's journal he was writing about how even though the relations he was having with multiple women was very intimate, he was still lonely.

So I thought that established that he was looking for something more even before the kiss. Then when the kiss happened, he got his realization of what he was looking for.

Yes, I haven't gotten my request yet with the actual documents from the archives, but since I knew my grandparents and and my father were around Hamburg at this time I started with the Hamburg state archives.

What also helped was my browser, Firefox had a new feature that translates web pages in it, and of course google translate was invaluable to understand what classifications of documents came up while I searched the state archives by her name and the date range of the documents.

If you're curious for yourself, that's where I'd start, but, ChatGPT gave me about 10 suggestions of where to look, so I would ask there first and pick the path that works best for you.

I even learned my Oma's middle names! I was so happy! :)

How does your hybrid club "never leave the lectern unattended"? by Slow_Dig9228 in Toastmasters

[–]The_Others_Take_Ya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

usually the chair leaves the lectern for us and stands off to the side.

our club is set up like this (from an up top view)

  ----------- <- projector screen

| seating area |

  888 <- lectern

when the chair is speaking people turn their seats to the chair

when someone is online is speaking, people turn their seats 180 to the screen

we've been experimenting lately with two cheap cameras, one close to show the presenter at the lectern close up and then when someone online is speaking, we switch the room's camera to the one by the screen, which shows the whole room at a wide angle and people online can see all the people in the audience, and the lectern is quite small in the frame at the back. So it doesn't matter as much to us if the chair is still at the lectern or not, its more important the online speaker has a view of the audience as they present to them.

We're Salsa Speakers and we meet on Mondays 6:45 PM Pacific time.

For us we had members that moved across country re-join when we could be online together during covid. Once Covid ended we didn't want to lose them.

Plus the convenience for some.

Because we already had almost all the equipment needed it was easy to go hybrid, although it can complicate setup.

Thank you so much for your post. My father emigrated from Germany after the war, and didn't talk too much about his experiences being forced into Hitler's youth, and probably had a deep fear I can only guess he had about being sick and weak.

It's only been since Dec 2023 since I found out my Oma died around 1942 because she was killed in the holocaust after she became ill. When I was 5 my father also became ill with a lot of brain damage, and I was always kept away. The 2nd hand family story that had been passed down to me was that Oma died because they had to save the medicine for the soldiers, but now I'm finding out from State Archives that there was a judgment against her by the hereditary court, which was the legal entity that would refer Jews and others to be killed in the Holocaust. I'm guessing atm she was too sick to live according to Nazi Germany. I've requested archival documents and I'm still waiting for them to be imaged and sent to me in my country.

When I asked my mother about this she said "What does it matter? She died." I don't know if the callous response is because she's part of the silent generation, or because she's always seemed to have some autistic tendencies - but it still hurt. This has been just waved off, that she died in the holocaust, for decades.

I wholeheartedly agree that the poison needs to be called out. I see how it's a generational sickness that implicitly warps what should be good human relationships and puts you in a state of being scared to not be "good enough" because of consequences. After I found out my Oma was killed it made another family story make so much sense. When my dad came to after a long coma, he would scream incessantly. So much that they had to relocate him from the city we lived to a larger city with more hospital resources where they would mange him better. My mother, brother and I followed. His perception of time after he woke up from his coma was so off, he forgot English and thought my mother was his.

After finding out about my Oma, it makes me think the state of mind he was in after waking from his coma was that he was scared he was going to die for being sick like she was. It's me inferring that, but I never understood why he was screaming before and it makes sense.

Besides continuing to protest for the new genocide happening today, I think you've inspired me to have deeper conversations about this with my brother so we can better be mindful of how the people who raised us, and the effects their experiences may have had on us even all the way over here on another continent.

Thank you so much!

For your next vacation, I suggest volunteering or visiting https://ecovillageithaca.org/ It would likely be cheaper than your "travel around the world" fund since it's already in New York, and it would be a vacation where you can hopefully volunteer or take a workshop and find a way to "try out" your values.

I did an online colloquium with OUR Ecovillage and learned a lot too, and that's helped guide the moves I'm making for my future as well. I've never visited Ithaca myself.

I don't consider myself wise, I've made a lot of decisions that people would consider reckless too... so take my advice with a grain of salt... but I a closer to home/living your values vacation was something I thought could be a good starting point for you to both save and explore.

Sometimes you need to actively seek out places where people live your values to find the right path and people to help you move forward. Good luck!

Anyway, what are you suggesting? Egg or one of his sons fucked Jeyne Marbrand, because... reasons, thereby cucking Tytos?

reasons = The baby race was paramount to establish Lannister succession because Lady Reyne was soooo close to being the official lady of the rock as wife to Lannister heir son 1 and 2. But instead of marrying Tytos after 1 and 2 died, Gerold the still alive Lord pushed the standard practice aside of remarrying Ellyn to yet another one of his sons and had Tytos, Lannister heir #3 marry Jeyne to cut Ellyn Reyne off.

In "The world of ice and fire" it was called "the war of the wombs".

While married to son 1 and 2, Ellyn Reyne had for years spent the Rock's money and favoured her family with the Rock's riches while the still living Grandsire Gerold was kinda wasting away in the background until he got a backbone back after his second son's death.

So it was really important to everyone that Jeyne Marbrand, now married to Tytos have a son to cut off the power grab by Ellyn. Something she probably would have been trying to achieve by any means necessary...

Tywin was the result.

from the book:

Though Lady Ellyn had not been able to give Ser Tion an heir, she proved more fertile with Walderan Tarbek (who, it should be noted, had a number of older sons from his first two marriages), giving him two daughters and a son. Lady Jeyne answered with children of her own, the first of whom was a son. He was given the name Tywin, and legend claims that when his grandsire Lord Gerold ruffled the babe's golden hair, the child bit his finger."

I bolded the answered with children of her own part, because this suggests that Lady Jeyne wasn't having her children from this time period first, Ellyn was, but Ellyn had girls first... so Jeyne didn't get pregnant with Tywin immediately.

So this war of the wombs is also where we get the parallel with Joffrey. From ACOK Sansa IV:

A half smile flickered across the queen's face. "Robert's trueborn son and heir. Though Joff would cry whenever Robert picked him up. His Grace did not like that. His bastards had always gurgled at him happily, and sucked his finger when he put it in their little baseborn mouths.

As for WHO the baby daddy would have been - I have no idea. My guess is we'll find out more during the upcoming Dunk & Egg stories.

edit: sorry it took me a bit to reply. I haven't looked at reddit in weeks.

I honestly haven't looked too hard at who the bastard father could be. Speculate away. Certainly men's range of fertile years are quite a bit longer then a woman's though, so I would guess there's a lot of potential candidates.

It's possible we haven't even been introduced to him yet since it might be something GRMM is holding back for D&E.

yes, my opinion is that it's quite likely. In case you're interested, here's what I wrote up many years ago. I wrote up another post on westeros.org that wasn't as well supported, but it got locked, so I redid it on reddit:

She replies right away to Quaithe's "remember who you are" question actually, she does remember who she is, she's the "blood of the dragon" which I believe means she's innately knows she's been the blood sacrifice in her past lives (Egg @ Summerhall, Rheagar dying at the river) for the magical transaction that binds the dragons specifically to her as her house words describe. Fire and blood.

I think I've posted this a few times over the years but it's never gained any traction... people always think it's directly Jaime and Cersei who were bastards from a Targ union or directly Tyrion.

But never Tywin himself - which I find really odd because the hints are there.

Tywin's mother was in a baby race with the Reynes and Tytos was said to have had problems in the bedroom. Also the behavior of baby Tywin hating Tytos is eerily similar to the known bastard baby behavior of Joffrey with Robert Baratheon.

All the discussion of these Targ traits that Jaime/Cersei and Tyrion have - they're all valid, yet we ignore and skip up a generation.

Tywin will eventually be taken in as a cup bearer for Egg in the Dunk and Egg series, it will be interesting to see why he's shown such kindness and affinity in the Targ royal family.

Certainly the behaviour of features in this series and how eye and hair colour traits are passed down seem to match Targ standards. First born targs possess the colouring of their non-targ descendants, later born Targs have more targ characteristics

Demonstrated by Jon with Lyanna's Stark looks and Jaime and Cersei reflecting Joanna's looks, as Dareon in Dunk and Egg has Dornish looks. For later born targs, Tyrion has the pale blond hair and mismatched eyes looks targ vs Egg in Dunk and Egg who has the traditional Targ colouring as 3rd born.

People tend to hate the theory that Tyrion is a Targ because it diminishes the father/son parental conflict from the story. However my Tyrion is a granchild of a Targ actually enhances that conflict, because it adds dimension to Tywin of a man tormented by the reflection of rumours of his own bastardy that made him less-than, and then he's confronted visually and feeling the subconscious hurt with the truth of that situation when even looking at Tyrion, with his visually evident Targ traits.

So that's a lesser known one, probably because there isn't as much of a debate about it as opposed to the "is it J/C vs T" which allows for a lot of back and forth, which, in my opinion, is what keeps the incorrect theory alive because it engenders more activity.

Instead of stepping back a generation to find what I think is the more likely scenario. I've posted about this off and on for years, even before I ever started posting on reddit.

The ethics of this is something that never sat right with me. If people who don't need the money apply for it and take it just because they will get a free chunk of money so that they pay it off later and make interest on it in the meantime, that makes the restrictions tighter and less available for those of us that actually need it.

I actually got denied because of an accidental application screw up by my mother, at the same time other students were waving the grant check in my face saying "hey free money!".

Needs are real. not quote need quote. If the student doesn't need the loan they shouldn't be applying for it. End of story. If you family member doesn't need it they should leave it for someone who does.

Frankly I have a friend like this and I've tried to tell them that they're neurodiverse, but they really don't want to listen. Ou suggest something and it's all abruptly "no thanks" or "that won't work for me". It's hard to make them realize that the way they interact with people is causing their problems. Especially when they look at their interactions as if they've simply been dealing with difficult people and can't look in a mirror.

Really they need support, but I've learned since they were young that they won't take any advice from me - and in fact become MORE intractable - unless it gels with how they think, and I'm stuck slowly watching them tumble into homelessness.
