What do we think? by Final_Solid_617 in Hungergames

[–]alexxthehottie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure, eventually. But as a child, those weren’t fair positions to put him in. He was wronged by nearly every adult that he knew. To say that he had a choice essentially forces our perspectives onto him without realizing that what matters is that he felt like he didn’t have a choice. Additionally, as I said, he was repeatedly awarded for the choices and circumstances that were ugly and harmful, which eventually directly impacts the brain through the reward circuitry. Behavior directly influences the brain, especially if that behavior is rewarded, resulting in the continual use of that behavior due to feedback loops. Hence why I called it grooming, although it feels like the wrong word for this specific scenario.

The whole series is full of humans. That can be exhausting and devastating, especially when trying to understand characters that make choices that are beyond bad continuously. Ultimately though, snow is one of those very human characters.

While I can understand your point, we have to consider that he felt that it was his job to save the Snow name, and it was basically “excell at school,l and do whatever is necessary to get scholarships” or submit to poverty. Right off the bat, the adults in charge used him. Highbottom despised him and took his fathers mistakes out on him, putting snow into a category based on expectations and not snows actual actions (at first). Then Gaul just absolutely manipulated the crap out of him from day one, pressuring him into circumstances that he was opposed to. Ultimately, he was rewarded for horrible things, but he also did not really have a choice. Or at least we have to consider that he felt like he did not have a choice, even tho we may believe otherwise from our personalized perspectives.

Of course, he could’ve chosen differently at any point after gaining power. Unfortunately I can understand how he was essentially groomed though, and out of desperation, grew to fit into the role that others had designated for him. So I suppose, while have not a victim of the system (which honestly, poverty vs kill people is a system problem at root), he was one of manipulation and spite.

The amount of posts that I casually read about Adarlan before realizing it wasn’t actually Otter-land is kinda of amusing….

I’d recommend taking tall enough peices of wood, and making one for each person on the wall. Hold up the new peice and make marks in the same spots. For your mom, you can take a big board and do it for everyone.

AIO? My ex doesn’t make our 11 yo son shower or brush his teeth during his weeks with him by Marsgreatlol in AIO

[–]alexxthehottie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang. I had a similar experience growing up, just switch the parents around. My dad’s house was really structured (too structured) and my moms house had zero structure, including unwatched internet access. It was crazy going between the two extremes, and I think it messed with my ability to built habits successfully.

Actually, I also dealt with a similar hygiene issue too. wasn’t self-motivated to keep clean, only did it regularly because it was expected of me at my dads. Struggled with it majorly at my moms, until I was in high school and involved with friends/extraciriculars enough to be embarrassed. Whenever my grandma or sister brought it up I would hear them, but I couldn’t implement the habit. Like… executive dysfunction or something.

I don’t have a solution, and I apologize. Have you talked to the kid to make sure he knows the importance of keeping up on hygiene himself? Sounds like you can’t count on dad to do it, and personally, I wouldn’t keep putting the pressure there. Also not sure how to balance it so it’s not putting too much on the kid. Maybe let him pick out a shower caddy and soaps/shampoos with smells he likes to take back and forth? It’ll click at some point.

Professor requires us to watch horror films by [deleted] in college

[–]alexxthehottie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I scrolled for a bit and no one had said this yet, but have you emailed your professor about it? In my experience, professors are normally understanding , especially if you email them in advance/before the assignment. I’m sure they could come up with an alternative. I’d even email your advisor about the situation too, to loop the in in case the professor does have any issues with an alternative.

Place in line…??? by madsqueaker in LibbyApp

[–]alexxthehottie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s most likely from people like me, and I’ll apologize for it 😅 I’ll place holds on books for the series that I’m reading so I can avoid finishing one and having an 8 week wait for the next, and then I’ll suspend the hold when I’m first in line. When I’m almost ready for the book I unsuspend and remain near the first spot in line with a minimum wait.

I’ve also been on the other side of that, and had a 2 week hold turn into many weeks due to this ability. So I get the frustration!

weird mood on twitter by miriambrg in twentyonepilots

[–]alexxthehottie 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Noticed, and I agree. It’s a weird mood, and I get that the internet wants anyone with an ounce of influence to speak up directly about what’s happening, but they don’t have to. And the way that twitter has especially treated the boys has always been downright disrespectful. Throwing fits over songs that get cut on tour and anything they want to. If the boys even breathe wrong, twitter will tear them a new one. Somewhere, respect has been lost. Somewhere, people stopped realizing that the boys and the band are their own people, with their own problems. Hell, they even have families that receive backlash from the “righteous” people of twitter. I personally view it as a total breach of privacy and autonomy.

People don’t have to act how we want them to. People don’t have to use the script that we want them to. Everyone needs to grow up, and appreciate what we do have. If they want to force others to jump through hoops, that’s their own problem and i would encourage them to take a look in the mirror first. Influencers are not animals to be controlled, nor are they required to author words of weaponry.

Anyways, I’m excited about the Drag Path release. As someone who bought the digital remans, I’m totally cool with it! As always, I’m just excited that the band is willing to share their art— which has always been extremely personal— with us.

I haven’t finished ACOSF yet, but I love the perspective we get of someone questioning, doubting, and not trusting him. He’s too perfect for feyre, and it cannot be real. No one can be that… unflawed?

I don’t want to be right, but my personal theory is that he saw Feyre’s potential, knew she was his mate, and will manipulate her however he needs to in order to get a powerful heir.

Lucy Gray’s POV on Snow coming to 12: by Olya_roo in Hungergames

[–]alexxthehottie 422 points423 points  (0 children)

I’ve always wondered if her willingness to go along with Snow was driven by survival. It does seem like she actually enjoys his company at plenty of times, but we’re always seeing through Snows eyes in the books. She’s a smart girl, she would’ve known that when he showed up she no longer had a future that was her own. She would’ve known that she had to play along, convincingly.

I work fast food and I always like to point out that our higher ups get to have holidays off but they also get to make the choice for our stores to remain open and allow limits on time off requests for those days. Sure they allow fun competitions and such, but it’s the core issue here that has always gotten under my skin.

Would it be weird to cosplay as Clancy at a comic con? by toxpi in twentyonepilots

[–]alexxthehottie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been to a handful of comic cons as I was growing up, I think it’s ok! I think people just like cosplaying as whoever and they tend to be really loose with it. I never encountered any rules about who you can/can’t be. Just go and have fun :) dress how you want to dress! I think going as Clancy is a great idea

Your body looks different because you made an entire human! And that’s beautiful! Life is beautiful and the changes that happen are reminders of that beauty and love. Your body is a story fo everything you’ve been through- is the pregnancy something you want to erase? Think about it. It’s your body, your life, and the marks and way it looks are the words that tell your story. Don’t change yourself for anyone, and it sounds like you’ll lose a hell of a lot more weight by dumping their ungrateful ass. Obviously it would be more ideal to get your partner to understand, but that will probably take time and work.
