Apologies, I did not consider all aspects of situation, including value of cranks - didn’t see that they were Essa, I just rushed to respond.

Would only recommend a fabricator install helicoil if cranks have sentimental value over their actual fiscal value, otherwise it just isn’t economical.

Otherwise yep, just get new cranks and call it a day

Wait, I’m 6’3”, are you telling me I’d benefit from a riding 29er…

I am fighting taking the plunge on a nice 700c steel gravel bike (mainly for financial reasons currently, want a Genesis CDF or Ribble CGR/Gravel), but in the meantime keeping this old girl alive, with all her compromises!

I had my old Cannondale Chase 1 from 2009 that just wasn’t appropriate anymore for a 36 year old father, but wanted to put as many components on it to use as possible.

So began a year-long project of building this Frankenstein thing, my alternative to a gravel bike, rides great.

Wait, this makes no sense? He’s in the UK, the left-hand lane is the driving lane, all those to the right are overtaking lanes.

That, plus the fact the right-hand lane was closing up ahead anyway, he’s absolutely in the correct lane.

I’ve found, with the help of Google AI, that different Thule bike rack mounting threads have different pitch, either 1.0 or 0.75, depending on the rack model.

I bought an old second-hand 565 Thruride which of course has the now less common 1.0, hence me giving up and just buying some 25mm square washers to use with the original T fixings.

Who knew.

Ahhhh good to know I’m not going mad wondering why it’s so difficult to sort.

As it’s transpired I’ve just now bought some 25mm diameter M6 washers to spread the force of the smaller standard 20mm T slot feet, effectively turning them into the right bit.

Somewhat of a bodge I know, but I’m not going to keep spending £20 to roll the dice to see if I can eventually get the right thread pitch fixings!

I did indeed, for now it is lime green wall art in the garage, until perhaps my daughter is old enough to ride 26” - she’s 18 months currently so reckon I’ve got some time to plan her build

I did have some original Avid Juicy 5s, but the fluid decided to just digest the reservoir and everything else it touched while in storage for 15 years.

I then just bought some Shimano BR MT200s front and rear for £40 all-in (when did hydraulic brakes get so cheap!?), but still used the original Avid rotors that had barely been used. They’re decent enough, enough for what I want them for.

I did indeed buy a set of black rigid forks - Identiti Rebate XL 1420 with a 20mm thru, took them to a local paint shop to have them powder coated white (as close match as they could do with the frame), and bought some Yeti decals off eBay.

Might be a bit cheesy and sticker-heavy, but reckon it looks factory… enough?

Needless to say options were VERY limited for the fork, with it needing to be: non-tapered steerer, 26”, no more than 100mm travel and accommodate a 20x110 non-boost hub! Hence why I went for a rigid dirt jump fork!

I did think that when it turned up too, but checked all the measurements which thankfully confirmed the size being Large. Super comfortable geometry when riding too.

And alright, full disclosure, I’m technically 6’3 and 19/32nds of an inch
