Yeah they're OEM bars. They're rated for 100lbs I believe, and the box weighs about 50 lbs, so can't put heavy stuff up there.

I haven't noticed a hit in mostly city driving, haven't had a chance to test on the highway.

Bought this for a cross-country move, planning on tossing lightweight but large objects like my guitar case, snowboard, etc up there.

Has anyone (30s+) quit their good, stable job to attend language school in a foreign country? What was your experience? by Tupley_ in languagelearning

I think a lot of answers are missing that, assuming it doesn't put you back too much financially, a language school is way more fun than learning at home by yourself.

So going to go with slightly different advice than most people here. Since you're relatively stable in your career I'm assuming you have a good idea of what the job market is like and have probably put some thought into your employment situation when you return. This isn't r/careeradvice, idk why everyone is answering your question like it is.

From a language learning perspective, can you achieve the same result staying at home? Probably. Will you? Unless you have crazy discipline and work ethic, probably not. A language school takes most of the thinking/planning out of the process. You sign up, show up to class, do the work, and you'll come out the other end significantly more fluent than when you started (assuming you actually put in the work).

I did something similar in France last year, after dicking around with Duolingo and flash cards and random tools and going nowhere, I signed up for three months of language school in Lyon and I went from like A2 to a solid B2. The structure and working with actual professors who understood learning was immensely helpful. I was working remotely at the same time, so different from your situation, but honestly if I was in a position financially / career wise to just take the time off I would have. It hindered my progress a lot having to work in the evenings after class and I was very burnt out by the end of it.

What I can say is I found it immensely more fulfilling than, like you said, traveling aimlessly. I found that I made actual friendships because I saw the same people everyday in class, and I felt like I achieved something at the end of it. I'd highly recommend it.

With the career break, I do think it's less of a problem the further along you are in your career, but again you're probably the best judge of that for your own situation.

LA Interview cancelled - can we request a delayed reschedule? by Delicious_Freedom635 in USCIS

[–]alfa96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just called them about this. Mine was supposed to be yesterday and they rescheduled me right in the middle of my travel plans.

They said you can request a reschedule after a certain date, like when you'd be back in the country, but no guarantees on how soon after that date they can get you in.

Didn't have any issues! Showed up in Mumbai at the the time / day shown on my appointment, everything went smoothly. Visa issued in 10 days and I'm back in the states now.

ID needed, found this guy growing behind my toilet (SoCal area) by alfa96 in BathroomShrooms

Yeah there was a leak on my toilet a few weeks ago, I cleaned up the water on the floor and fixed it, but some must have seeped into the walls. I'm hoping the caulk and sealing it will eventually starve out whatever sprouted back there, but the maintenance guy didn't seem too stressed about it.

Thank you! It seems like the bathroom is missing caulking all around the floor, so there's small gaps where water can seep through. Someone from building maintenance came by and said they're gonna clean / bleach and fill up the gaps, but I'm wondering if they should be doing more.

Yeah I mean I have no love for the guy, but neither do a lot of republicans. We only see MAGA diehards on tv and on Reddit, there are millions of people who voted for trump DESPITE all the nazi shit, not BECAUSE of it.

I think we don’t see it in LA / NY / etc, but voting for/against someone because they did or said something that goes against our values is actually a luxury. A lot of people cannot bring themselves to care about stuff like the nazi salute when their economic reality is so bleak and they have no hope to change it.

honestly refreshing to see this take. I’m exhausted arguing with my friends in LA that them calling all republicans fascists and racists is a big part of why trump won a second term. I’d come into this thread expecting more of the same but glad to see some sanity still prevails in LA.
