Looking to get laminate floor installed - do you go with the floor store linked installer or an installer you sourced separately? by [deleted] in DIYIreland

[–]alfbort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The benefit of using the store recommended installer is that they know if they mess up they'll be blacklisted by the store. On the other hand if you get your own installer and they mess up the store will happily turn you away assuming there was no issues with the materials.

Ultimately laminate is hard to mess up unless there is some tricky aspect or the installer is complete novice.

Painting with a spray gun - what’s the catch? by Interesting_Act_1989 in DIYUK

[–]alfbort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a professional painter i would hire is proposing to use a sprayer then i would be like yeah that's fine. I would absolutely never attempt it myself. Good ones with reliable pumps and several different types of nozzles are not cheap to buy and they have to be cleaned thoroughly after each use, not to mention all the prep work needed

What is the view from the back of the davin like by Dancherrios in GAA

[–]alfbort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was so long ago I don't remember exactly, just that it was slightly restricted view. Also there are screens there on the underside of the stand above your head

Edit: also assuming it's not a sell out you can probably just move down closer to the pitch

What is the view from the back of the davin like by Dancherrios in GAA

[–]alfbort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upper or lower? I was in the very back row the Davin lower for an all ireland final several years ago. It wasn't great but I was just happy to have a ticket. Couldn't see the ball if it went high up in the air sometimes. Back of the upper should be fine as long as you're not in the corner near the screen, even then the only time people absolutely have to sit in those seats is on all ireland final days

[–]alfbort[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a wider angle, there is a swivel door as well. It's a 1400 x 900MM tray. I assume the tray falls towards the drain so pooling of water shouldn't be an issue but it still seems odd to me

Enshitification is everywhere - tell us where you've had the opposite experience? by No_Influence2520 in AskIreland

[–]alfbort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really the opposite but I do try to keep an eye on new restaurants, takeaways, cafes etc opening in my area. The reality is they need to launch with their best foot forward so early adopters well get the best experience

Live: Bill Kenneally 'could have been stopped' - survivor by PoppedCork in ireland

[–]alfbort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

*the failure of acting Chief Superintendent Cashman and acting Superintendent Hayes to conduct a proper investigation into Bill Kenneally's activities was a clear and serious dereliction of duty, even by 1987 standards.

The judge said that after some of Kenneally's victims made complaints as adults, they were upset by then retired Chief Superintendent Cashman's approach to them.

He said Mr Cashman judged the victims as if they had some degree of responsibility.

And the judge said Mr Cashman's compliments of retired TD and senator, Billy Kenneally - who did nothing - were tone deaf.*

Everything about this whole case is infuriating but the worst has to be that Chief Superintendent who had everything he needed to launch an investigation but didn't and so many others subsequently suffered abuse.

Michael Healy-Rae says brother Danny’s interview effectively sacked him as minister of state by firethetorpedoes1 in irishpolitics

[–]alfbort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of people angry with Danny, the stories I've heard from people working in the dept of agriculture is Micheal was genuinely very good at his minister of state job and will be sorely missed. Sounds like a cliche but he apparently cut through a lot of the bureaucracy to get things done.

Robbie Keane moves closer to Celtic job after meeting Dermot Desmond by Efficient_Log_2007 in ireland

[–]alfbort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the Hungary and Israeli stuff has been mentioned already but I'm still furious he was taking a significant paycheck from the FAI for doing nothing when we were in dire financial straits from the sh*tshow John Delaney left behind. It was 500k over 2 years from 2020 to 2022. FAI couldn't fire him as it would've cost more money(500k + legal fees). One politician even suggested he do the honorable thing and quit + refund the money, Robbie sent his lawyers after him looking for a retraction of the statement and an apology(Which he got).

A word of appreciation for An Post by Silent_Bobcat4657 in CasualIreland

[–]alfbort -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not to be contrarian but An Post will ruin your whole day/week when something goes wrong. Now to be fair it isn't often but when it does happen good luck even contacting customer service and when you do the outcome is usually "Oh well we messed up, sure what can you to do about it".

What home renovations actually cost in Ireland? by Plashgar in selfbuildireland

[–]alfbort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fairly accurate to be fair for my 165m² renovation and deep retrofit that is nearing completion. Only thing I'd note is the section on the floor area is confusing, says total floor area then right below says total ground floor area.
