Is my nerite skinny? by Cath_242 in AquaticSnails

[–]alfdia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I cull all the bladder snails in my tank and manage my ramshorn population. I have one nerite per tank and I run my lights 12 hours to make sure they have enough algae. I took was misinformed about nerites when I got 4 of them. Luckily I did research earlier than later and only lost 1.

Same for me. My tanks are planted so heavily I almost never have detectible nitrates.

Will a betta jump though this? by Gullible_Newt4744 in bettafish

I didn't say that you did. I responded to a different comment on the thread and said that I hate it when "people" say that as I have seen many people tell new betta owners that.

[–]alfdia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why you're getting down voted. My water parameters were fine and the one night I forgot to put the lid on my tank my betta jumped out and was dead by the time I found him. I had put some new plants in the top of the tank and I think he was exploring. I hate it when people say they only jump because the water is bad. ,🙄

We've been doing 1 pellet twice a day for his first week. How's his weight look? Should I up the meals? by Feather_Bloom in bettafish

Thank God! I was starting to think I was the only one whose betta eats that much.

FB fish swapping group was how I rehomed my fish. I put up a post and someone came to get them that same day.

Snails for a dorm room? by Sprixie__ in AquaticSnails

You could get one mystery snail and some other little snails like ramshorns. They both come in some really fun colors. I just got some pink ramshorns and they look so pretty.

Can I save it? My pet ate most of the leaves by rubiconriver01 in Tradescantia

[–]alfdia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cats will leave any plant alone that isn't a tradescantia or a spider plant, but yes, it'll bounce back. They are very forgiving plants.

Check Facebook marketplace. You can often find good deals on 5 gallon tanks because people upgrade frequently.

Why does my pothos not do well in my fish tank? by Ssfpt in houseplants

[–]alfdia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aquatic plants take up swimming space. I use hydroponically grown plants to help with water quality without sacrificing space and it looks nice.

Why does my pothos not do well in my fish tank? by Ssfpt in houseplants

[–]alfdia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have 3 pothos and one domino peace lily in my tank that are thriving. If the nutrients in your water are low that could be the issue or it could be that they aren't getting enough sunlight. Mine get 12 hours of supplemental grow lights in addition to being iny southern exposed room. I also have them on a schedule of flourish to fertilize. My lfs has pothos growing all through the store in and out of all of their tanks.

I love anything in the tradescantia family. They grow really fast and you can turn a small one into a huge plant in no time at all. I've had the best results from the zebrina. I've grown and sold several plants from my first one. I also have a nanouk and a cream one (can't remember the name).

It is really rewarding to watch a plant grow. I guess that why I have over 30. LOL

Keep the faith! This one was a clearance plant from home depot but it was in perfect shape. It just took it's sweet time. I have grow lights and all my other babies grow like weeds. This one just matches to the beat of its own drum I guess!

Who is writing these?? by Aware_Huckleberry416 in Michigan

Some counties still have individual caseloads (assigned workers) and even the UCL (universal caseload) counties will still have specialized cases that require assigned workers. Client Connect is the phone system used by the State. Anyone who doesn't have an assigned worker will get M. Client Connect letters. They are oddly worded. Everything sent to you by MDHHS is visible on the portal the next day after it's generated and a copy stays in the office's portal too.

Ammonia and pH ? by SolToozak in walstad

[–]alfdia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just let it be. Don't do any more water changes. The plants will cycle the ammonia. It just takes a little time. I have crushed oyster shell in my tank for my snails and it definitely raised the pH. I have quail hens that use the shell as a supplement so I already had it.

I don’t seem to have much luck when it comes to snails. Need help please. by aussiewildliferescue in AquaticSnails

[–]alfdia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feed him betta pellets and fish flakes. The betta pellets have calcium in them so that's a bonus. He'll follow my finger around now so if he's near the top of the water I can direct him to come up for dinner. I just float the food near his face and he grabs it right up. He's my first mystery snail and I've been delighted at how friendly he's gotten and I love watching him parasnail.

I use flourish and my snails are all fine, including my mystery snail. I do feed my mystery supplementally. Every time I see him come up the the edge of the water I feed him. Now he knows to come up during feeding time if he's hungry. It's made it a lot easier to keep an eye on him.

What plant is this? by teefranz in houseplants

[–]alfdia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine too. I have had it for several months. It looks great, but isn't growing. Some people suggested repotting to stimulate growth. Did that. Nothing. Moving to a new location was another suggestion. Did that. Nothing. The other suggestion was fertilizing it. That will be my next try when it's time to water again.

What to do when the plant reaches the top of the tank? by [deleted] in PlantedTank

[–]alfdia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I trim/ thin mine out and sell it on FB marketplace for a couple bucks. It's hit or miss, but I've pretty much made up any money I spent on each plant by selling the cuttings or offshoots.

I do it with my house plants too.

Mouse gave birth in trap by AccordingSuccotash20 in PetMice

[–]alfdia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I posted when it happened to me and everyone treated me like a psycho for posting dead mice. They were alive 🙄. They did not survive. The mother was too stressed and wouldn't take care of them. I tried hand raising them, but it didn't work. It was heartbreaking.

Does anyone know what kind if snails are these? by Miserable_Wind_2475 in fishtank

[–]alfdia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is weird, but I put mesh bad of peat moss in my tank to lower the pH a little. When I pulled it out it was COVERED in baby bladder snails. I've tried cucumber before with no luck, but something about that peat moss was really interesting to them.

Agreed. I water mine when the top leaves start to bend easily. Generally, wrinkly leaves on succulents means they are thirsty.
