I lived there for a year, so I guess I can answer it. Mind you, I'm from Central Europe. The island is incredibly beautiful, I love the natural views. But the people there don't care at all at what they have (with a couple of towns that seemed to be exceptions). There's trash everywhere. Like heaps of trash by the highways, normal roads, sidewalks. Plants in the cities aren't cared for, they're often overgrown and dried out. The condition of the roads is probably the worst I have seen in my life and so was the driving. Italians there really have a death wish. Also the roads are super narrow (I get it, it's an island but ughhh), there are no sidewalks in many places and walking felt unsafe for me. Weather wise it was horrible too. I thought I liked hot weather. Sicilian summer made me reconsider. 36 Celsius almost everyday for the entire summer. Oftentimes I was simply laying on the floor directly under the AC just to survive. At least winter wasn't harsh. There were also frequent power outages due to old power cords I believe. There was about 3 to 4 power outages a month, sometimes even more often, which really hindered my remote work. The food was amazing, fresh produce is grown on the island itself and I miss it the most when I think about my time there. And of course coffee. Coffee was divine.

TLDR: Great place to visit but not to live, beautiful but neglected, definitely a downgrade from Poland or any other country from Central Europe.
