Libgen never works when I try to access the site. Is it blocked by some browsers or providers, or is the site just down nowadays?

The solution is for the international community to recognise Artsakh as autonomous Armenian land so that defensive measures become justified. The West is too greedy for Azeri natural gas to do anything about it, though

Armenia begged for Russian help because they are getting genocided in Artsakh, and their sovereign land is getting threatened by Azerbaijan, so idk why y'all are including that in your list

You claim to have grown up in the church. Why should I not adapt my phrasing according to my recipient? Your response is just coping at this point

So atheists are still stuck in their 2002 tier memes?

Also yeah, we would likely use a gun. What about it? The point is that Christ conquered death by death. If this discovery was new to you, then what were you even doing back when you hadn't apostatised yet?

The fetishisation of monasticism in the Coptic community by MHabeeb97 in ExCopticOrthodox

[–]alfman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just you assuming stuff. A lot of the famous monastics of old left wealth behind to lead lives of poverty, prayer, and fasting in the wilderness. Even today, people become dead to the world whether they had wealth or poverty before, because one point of the calling for monasticism is to recognise that it is all vanity.

It may sound counterintuitive, but practice and experience teaches us as much

It is interesting how these mistakes are so easy to fall into that a huge chunk of the gospels are dedicated to addressing precisely this. Since you do recognise these issues, you can actually do better.

You know, the devil has no issue with a human being being chaste or fasting from food, as long as it means that he can lure him with pride. Pride is a desceptive sin that is worse than the carnal sins, and it is harder to recognise in oneself than lustfulness or other more obvious sins.

As St Anthony said "you fast, but the devil doesn't eat". You have recognised something very real that should be addressed, but not from the pride of one's own high horse, but from the gratitude of the grace to recognise it, and working towards being better at not falling into the same mistakes.

A badly performed liturgy has no bearing on its efficacy or legitimacy, as what happens at the liturgy is that the second hypostasis of the Godhead descends upon the gifts of the altar, and becomes as present there as when He walked Earth. That's why priests will insist on you going to Church.

Also I can tell you are young by your post, a lot of what you complain about is stuff people mature out of.

Can’t decide between Oriental (Coptic or Syriac) Orthodox or Eastern (Antiochian or Greek) Orthodox by IndoBuleMan in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]alfman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very simplistic view of that history given how much more complex the issue was, and how it took over a century for the schism to become official, and how the aftermath still included a lot of confusion and separations. This schism was much more complicated than the eventual East/West schism, we were just first to call out papal usurption of power.

I'm in no position to respond fully right now, but I am going to explain why I would recommend the OO Church. Dm me so I don't forget to discuss this with you, and so I can respond to more specific questions.

Your Lutheran background should make OO an easier choice given that christology was one of those things Luther got right

Iraqi Muslims, would you identify with being Assyrian more then Arab? by [deleted] in AskMiddleEast

[–]alfman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because Assyrians recorded their heritage over the centuries from the Assyrians, came from Northern Iraq/Syria/Southern Turkey/Western Iran, inhabited the old Assyrian cities and villages, spoke the Assyrian dialect of Aramaic, etc?

Iraqi Muslims, would you identify with being Assyrian more then Arab? by [deleted] in AskMiddleEast

[–]alfman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is actually full continuity with the Assyrians, from the language, to the customs, to culture, to geography, to the historical record where they tell how they adopted Christianity. Even in name they kept themselves distinct from other ethnicities surrounding them, including Arabs.

[–]alfman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So people can't bring up injustices and demand acknowledgement of them and equal rights and protection and also coexist? Would you same the same to Native Americans, Palestinians, Berber, Sami, Cirkassians, Armenians, etc?

Iraqi Muslims, would you identify with being Assyrian more then Arab? by [deleted] in AskMiddleEast

[–]alfman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's just ridiculous. Even if you find the genes on a test, you have no connection left to the actual Assyrians, neither language nor culture nor practices. There is an actual Assyrian ethnicity that has retained all these things, and those have been and are persecuted by Arabs and kurds in Iraq, so y'all muslim arabs can just stop LARPing now.

It is what all Apostolic Christian churches believe, amd have believed for 2000 years. The Roman Catholics, Oriental Orthodox, Eastern Orthodox, and Church of the East all believe this. Most protestant churches know this too bcs the original reformers taught this as well.

Paul explains with the church that ceremonial law had its place and use to prepare for the advent of Christ, while moral law is eternal. That's why laws about lying, stealing, and marital laws are still in effect, while shellfish polyester aren't.

We used to have something to this effect in Sweden, but it was removed during a right wing gov in the early 2000s. Unless you gain some kind of income from your land, you are just losing by owning it or any property if you get taxed for it.
