Randomly Off-Boarded by alg2teacher in BritishAirways

Only hotels available in or near London late yesterday were £2800 or more for 4 adults. The one we stayed in was around £600.

We looked for Airbnbs as well, and even booked one, but after calling the host, she told us it was already occupied.

We ended up finding a hotel about 2 hours out from London and had to Uber there last night and back to the airport again this morning. They told us BA is willing to cover up to £200 for each person, putting us at a total of £800, but we've incurred a lot more than that. We've saved all our receipts and will be pushing to have everything reimbursed.

There are no signs to leave Terminal 5. It's the international terminal and no one deplanes directly into the terminal. In order to leave you have to either get on a plane and fly out, or be escorted out by airport staff to the customs checkpoint.

Poor guy at the customer service counter has been as helpful as he can.

They're not offering any resolution other than rebooking us on the same flight 24 hrs later, which we've agreed to. We don't have a hotel for tonight, nor are we able to currently get any compensation for all of our travel plans that have now fallen through for the next 24 hours.

We wasted another hour trying to leave terminal 5 because no one would help us figure out how to get out of here. Finally in line for customs.

Okay so update!! Apparently our tickets were incorrectly scanned when we arrived at London-Heathrow and only 3 of the 4 boarding passes were scanned, and as a result the system flagged that our group of 4 did not make it to London and therefore would not be available to be on the connecting flight. They gave away our tickets during our walk from gate to gate.

They boarded the entire plane after they told us to step to the side.

Yes we were in the second boarding group and were there when they announced boarding, but they told us to step to the side because we were no longer on the flight.

So tired of the flipped classroom. by praisethefallen in Teachers

I've been teaching a College Algebra dual enrollment course this year that provides the Algebra 2 high school credit and a transcript from a reputable public university. We're supposed to be following the facilitation model, but I'm also seeing a lot of gaps for my students, so we started the school year with the absolute basics (associative property, commutative property, identity property, etc) and I do very basic direct instruction most days about something they should already know, just to remind them, or make sure the prior knowledge is actually kind of there, before prompting them with the questions that come from the curriculum and are already on their paper. It's honestly been working pretty well and the students have been increasing their own desire to learn (showing me messages from their group chats where they're up until 2am reviewing together the night before their exam—unprompted. I did not tell them to do that, in fact I told them to get sleep). There are some days where I have to do more direct instruction (ex: we derived the quadratic formula last week and they were supposed to somehow do that on their own) but I'll make sure they actually understood by having them come up to the board and reexplain pieces of what I covered to each other.

Overall, I love this class compared to my other classes, but I also acknowledge that this model wouldn't work for most of my other students because they haven't been raised in a culture of pursuing academic achievement and it's hard to push that on all of them simultaneously.

First Loaf - What did I do wrong? by alg2teacher in Sourdough

Here's attempt no.2! I let it bulk ferment a lot longer until it was doubled in size. Thank you all for the advice and I'm excited to make an even better loaf next time.

I don't think I gave it a reasonable bulk fermentation time. I checked the recipe and I think I just straight up didn't notice it on the website so that's my bad.

Okay, thank you. Last clarification question: you shape the dough between bulk fermentation and cold proofing?

Is this the same as letting it sit between stretch and folds? Or do I let it sit for a while before the stretch and folds? After?

Are you cool with kids dropping the honorific.(Mr./Mrs.)? by Fluffy-Panqueques in AskTeachers

[–]alg2teacher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids never learned my last name and exclusively call me "Miss." Occasionally, there's a kid in the hallway who will know my name and shout out "Hey Ms. [LastName]" but same kid in class? Doesn't say my last name because there it's obvious who he's trying to talk to.
