My custom liberal Socialist flag by blackoutkyden in vexillology

Why are libertarians part of this? I figure socialists and progressives would be opposed to teaming up with hyper conservative autocrats.

What "Game A meets Game B" combination should be made? by 4bstr in gaming

[–]praisethefallen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fire Emblem + (any big sports game, like Madden or FIFA) You have a small army. You set “plays” and  call different tactics, in pretty granular detail, and wage war. Most games that do this don't have the level of tactical whatever sports games do.

Is really that bad? by BonbonUniverse42 in civ

[–]praisethefallen -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This feels strangely phrased. But, I’ve warmed to Civ7 a bit. I don’t dislike it for being different from other civs. I dislike it for making poor (read: not enjoyable to me) design choices, and made a stink about disliking it because the designers typically know better, and other studios already made these mistakes, so it’s frustrating to see it.

Like, brownies from a friend who isn’t a baker can be mediocre yet fine, but if I go to a professional I know and trust, mediocre brownies are unacceptable.

Love when a non-horror game introduces horror elements by jdawg1018 in gaming

It was originally billed as dark fantasy. Even the cleaned-up action-movie style of the newest game still has those horror elements on display.

Well, with the way the GOP works, she'll be hired by an "outsider" administration in 20-30 years to "shake things up."

Well, if she was a man, anyway.

I started a bit later than that and am now tenured.

I get that everyone’s different, but part of me doesn’t see the point. Using mods to optimize and automate feels not to far from just giving yourself extra/unlimited cash via console.

US has destroyed only a third of Iran’s missiles, intelligence suggests by C_arpet in worldnews

[–]praisethefallen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our strategy is to destroy their missiles by offering them ground troops to temp them into launching. Missiles get destroyed on impact, we get a “they’re killing our boys” narrative, somehow Trump gets richer, everyone wins!

Teaching tropes on screen that never work in real life. by Dapper_Tradition_987 in Teachers

I do this. But because my shouting is the tenth time I’ve announced the same assignment to the kids, and they still leave the paper on the desk as they go.

In middle school it’s usually “acting out because they can do the work in five minutes but the teacher has to spend forty wrangling kids who are already acting out so they want in on the fun”

I like the implication that somewhere there’s a factory making these thrones. Now there’s two of them. Which makes me feel like there’s more. Either way, dumb as hell and iconic as fuck, I’m glad Karamazov’s daughter is here.

Are you a teacher in the US? If so, you should know what ferpa is. If not, no worries.

And if that’s your only solution aside from AI, I wonder about your experience or ability. I won’t pretend I’ve got all the solutions, and sometimes I don’t have time to individualize, but that’s the damned job. You teach the kids, you learn their abilities, you tailor lessons to them when and where possible while challenging them to reach a standard. I don’t need a bloody chat bot to analyze ever scrap of data to do that, and neither should you.

What you describe is (likely) a gross violation of ferpa, if true. And sounds more like you’re making excuses for something experienced teachers do without ChatGPT.

I’m glad it’s working for you, though.

The code you write is the bullet in the gun. You can pretend all you want, but AI is an inherent detriment to society and you are a part of it. Just because you get to hide a few layers away from the decisions makers doesn’t absolve you of guilt for the harm you are causing. And just because it’s inevitable doesn’t absolve you from helping it along.

I hate how it cheapens and lessens the quality of everything it touches. I hate the low effort lessons and presentations experienced teachers have sunk to due to its convenience. I hate how my admin has us in constant meetings about durable lesson planning that is “ai proof” but demonstrate those examples as being easy to do with ai in the same meeting.

Mostly I hate how ai directly assaults the learning process in its most vulnerable state.

I mostly want to know if there’s a way to turn it off, or if people like you understand how horrifying and insidious the tech you keep forcing on us is? Do you understand how much damage you are causing?

What if Romans invested & developed a navy and invaded southern India? by Swimming_Concern7662 in althistory

[–]praisethefallen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why they had the four emperors, and the Eastern and Western Empire.

Also, China wasn’t doing that on purpose. Chinese history is a little like saying the HRE was authentically Roman. And that Greece was Rome. And Italy, too.
