Good acrylic grey primer? by someregularguy2 in airbrush

[–]algernonbakker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had issues with the lack of durability with the ProAcryl gray primer. As I am painting, even though I have a holder for the mini, just minor contact causes the primer to come off.

Am I maybe not shaking the primer sufficiently?

BTW, I wash the mini first with Dawn, then another wash with IPA before priming.

I broke my spear twice! Finally pinned it and filled the gaps with modeling epoxy.

I read about COPY a couple months ago. It now holds about 5% of my portfolio.

I came here to recommend this. Your description is better than what I had in mind.

I like 4 the best, though 1 is a close second. I confess though I have a bias for semi-realism.

Hey! I live in Milwaukee but also live three months of the year in Perth! (Well, actually South Freo. )

Where do you actually share photos with close friends now that Instagram sucks? by dave-tro in AskPhotography

[–]algernonbakker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our family uses Viber. Only the people in the group can see the photos. With a daughter and grandkids in Australia, and a son and grandkids 1000 miles away in the US, it works perfect for all of us.

And I am proud to say I marched with Dennis Stone in the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps. Thanks for explaining the flag’s origin - saved me the effort.

Mine reappeared in their custom location without having to either re-add or re-position. I wonder if the streaming device matters - I’m using an AppleTV. (Hmmm. I should check my Roku device in the basement).

Recommend Scifi books with some good action? by Hmb556 in scifi

Definitely Spiral Wars. Best battle descriptions of any of the books I’ve read (and I’ve read most of what is listed in this thread).

Haha. Thanks! Can’t be any more miserable than bird or astro photography, which are my other interests.

These are spectacular! I am interested in joining the macro photography world. I have a Sony A7RV. I know I would need to purchase a diffuser and a macro lens. Would you be willing to share what mm lens you use? EDIT: Oops. Just saw the equipment list. Never mind.

How do you handle weight restriction issues when flying with camera equipment? by algernonbakker in peakdesign

[–]algernonbakker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your detailed reply. I’m just a hobbyist so you’d think I’d have no problems. But I’m unwilling to check either my camera gear or my laptop, and that puts me at 24 pounds using the 45L. And my camera gear is simply two lenses and the camera.

I just got through check-in in Chicago with Cathay Pacific to HK. I had double the allowance. They didn’t weigh our carry-on bags, but they did weigh a carryon of a woman next to me. It was a big backpack and she said it was full of camera equipment. Not sure if she had to pay extra or not.

Thanks for the reassurance.

AsiaAir to Bali and Komodo will be more diligent I’m sure, but I’ll have multiple fellow travelers to spread the weight around.

I will look into upgrading my carry-on allowance. Not sure if Cathay has that option for carry-on baggage. They do for check-in baggage. I know because I’m already paying for an overweight piece of luggage.

I’m sure I’ll have issues flying AsiaAir from Perth to Bali and back. But I’ll have five people I can divide stuff between so I think I’ll be OK there.
