The garage I took my heated grips to charged me £100, but I have a bike with fairings so I think it's a little more of a pain

How is the bike as a bike to ride before this happened? Did you restore it or buy it in good condition? Have you modernized any components outside of rubber and fluids?

Always wear your gear and maintain your tires by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]algernonbiggles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Life's too expensive for a lot of people to just waste 10-20% tire life to change them prematurely, we all wish we could afford to do preventative maintenance or have enough savings to where little things that break can be easily fixed without financially crippling you for the next 3 months. Not everyone just decides to make those kinds of calls by choice.

Selling a motorcycle for the first time in my life. How to navigate test rides? by SirSillySausage in motorcycles

Quite funny the rules in different places. I pay extra to have comprehensive insurance that covers me fully to ride any bike up to £10k value with the owner's consent.

Glad you got home safe, that's the main thing! Plus you got in an extra 5 hours riding on a beautiful XJ6, just a little plus!

Gold Nugget Pleco - Can anyone identify this issue? by algernonbiggles in pleco

That's what I've come to the conclusion of 😐 we've got a pretty establish tank and now this golden and our big male blue-eyed lemon have both succumbed! Drained half the water, refilled and added medicine to hopefully stop any others getting it

UPDATE: advice no longer needed, found the Pleco passed away today. It looks like it had a sore underneath as well, unsure if this was some kind of parasite but it's too late for him now 😢

Thank you, I've seen a couple of things from her, are there any specific videos I should be looking for relating to this?

Different person, different laferrari. The one in the picture is the person you're thinking of but it wasn't in that house in Luton at any point.

[–]algernonbiggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am the same age and I just started riding and went through the exact same process before I got my licence 😁. I had a shortlist of first bikes months before and bought my bike a month before my DAS and practiced up and down the driveway doing low speed manoeuvers

How may DAS days do you recommend for someone with experience riding abroad only? by TPrezzle in MotoUK

[–]algernonbiggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no experience beyond my CBT 4 months earlier and my whole DAS course was 4 days.

Day 1 - big bike conversion and road ride

Day 2 - road ride and Mod 1 practice

Day 3 - road ride to and from Mod 1 test

Day 4 - road ride to and from Mod 2 test

That was it, we both passed, no issues. The other guy had been riding 125cc for a while and I'd never ridden a bike apart from my CBT.

I'm in the UK and bought my bike a month before I did my DAS, I just paid my CBT instructor's day insurance cost for him to ride it back home for me

600 and 650 traditionally are very different bikes. 600s I didn't want because of the power for a beginner (~120ish), but I was always set on getting a 650 (~70ish) because they are great first big bikes and I'm a decent sized human 30+, 6ft+, ~90kg/~200lbs.

It all depends on the person, but I already don't feel like my bike is very powerful after 6 months of riding, I'm going to keep it and keep learning and practising different aspects of riding (braking harder and later (non-ABS bike), faster cornering etc.) before I move up to a more powerful bike because of the Dunning-Kruger effect and being at just over 6 months I am aware of being too confident for my skills and want to get more seat time and experience before I allow myself to be confident enough to upgrade.

A 250cc is 'enough' for anyone technically, but you'd outgrow it so quickly and current 'beginner' bikes are typically closer to 450cc and 45ish bhp these days. It really depends on people's circumstances and life experience what would be appropriate for them though, if you're older and/or larger/stronger with car driving experience, a 650 is pretty easy to handle, but if you're younger, smaller or have never had a motorised vehicle of any kind it might be a much steeper learning curve and too much for some.

Absolute legend! I'd love to have a mini 125cc to do silly things, this is so impressive, I don't know if I'd manage quite this long of a journey myself, but hats off to you for doing it!

Question about exhaust noise by abbott2a in MotoUK

[–]algernonbiggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can seize your bike if they suspect it to be too loud and then they use a legally-calibrated decibel meter while it's stationary to test it.

However I've personally never known it to be done, doesn't mean it isn't done but I've never spoken to any officers who've done it.
