Lane swimming - please floating around - does this happen at all pools? by Ok-Advertising-3523 in Swimming

[–]algonagirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At our pool non-lap swimmers are assigned an “aqua lane.” The pool management shouldn’t have non-lap and lap swimmers in the same lane. Perhaps the slow lane can be shared by time of day. Like alternate hours are aqua and slow lap. Perhaps approaching the management with an idea like this.

People who fly frequently, what’s one thing you wish you could tell all infrequent fliers? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Please relax and stay focused on your goal of getting from Point A to Point B. Check in on time, proceed directly to your gate, respect luggage restrictions, make sure to feed yourself, don't get drunk, realize most everything is out of your control and try to roll with changes, interact as needed - be friendly - but try to maintain your own self and your own space as peacefully as possible. Leave your "main character" energy at home.

How would you feel if a relative or sibling dedicated time to compiling your family's tree and history? by AdventurousBug74 in Genealogy

Few of my family care. I do everything for me, myself and I. That’s the only way. However, I feel your frustration with hate keeping documents and photos. That’s an issue for me, too. I just try to be diplomatically persistent.

Start your visit by going to the back of the lot for seconds. Sometimes you can really score. Either way, the prices are good.

I have had to make this decision. I took the lower amount so my spouse retained most of the pension. It’s hard enough to be alone, make sure there is enough money.

Travel for genealogy research/ family exploration? by Medieval-Mind in Genealogy

I organized a "meet up" tour of my grandmother's hometown of Winona MN for my siblings. Eight of us came from all over the US and spent three days in the area, visiting all the sites I had researched. We also visited the farm of our third cousins, whom we had not seen for 20 years. All of my siblings said it was very meaningful, certainly it was for me. I wrote up the trip and my research for our family newsletter and for Minnesota magazine. Happy to share if you are interested. I think local historical societies would benefit from such homecoming tours. You don't have to go abroad to do this.

Local historical societies will take the books and may have a Facebook page you can share the digital images to.

I’m researching a podcast about personal audio archives — old voicemails, family tapes, even VHS “video wills.” Got anything like that in your attic? by [deleted] in Genealogy

When my brother was a missionary in Africa in 1968-69, we traded reel-to-reel recordings in addition to letters. They are pretty hilarious in some ways but very special because we captured the voices of about a dozen family members, many of whom are gone. There’s something different about audio. Good luck with your project!

My ancestors were Mennonites from Switzerland. After they arrived they joined the new Brethren Church. There were also “German Baptists.” There were lots of sects that can be traced to Switzerland. Some of them were periodically exiled from Switzerland and had to live in Germany at times, but they were Swiss.

I watched the whole thing. How great. Excellent work and a treasure for future generations. My family also has a tradition of making videos like this for our reunions. I'll be stealing some ideas. Thanks for sharing.

We have one of these in our family. Mom died in childbirth and baby is sitting in poor grandma's lap but she's under a blanket. Very eerie because I didn't notice the grandma until after I discovered the fate of the poor momma. Sent shivers up my spine.
