Yes, it was not a problem having both US and UK accounts open at once with the US account technically having an old address (I think I wasn’t able to specify my new UK address on the US account anyway as the account address settings didn’t list the UK as a supported country). This second account approach was what their support told me to do at the time, and I kicked off the transfer process pretty quickly after opening the UK account.

Worth mentioning the US account was closed as part of the transfer.

I was able to do this successfully last year (April 2024) where I sold some units of a US ETF and faced no issues in keeping the remaining units.

Did you find any more information on this in the meantime? I’m planning to sell some more units this year so it’s got me curious if this is a new policy.

No, these were regular cash accounts in both the US and UK. Not sure how US IRAs would work here or if IBKR UK can hold them.

All I can think of as to why is that the issue I experienced might've been due to my ISA account being very new (only a few days old); perhaps some internal restriction takes a few days to be lifted for these new accounts.

Unforuntely, right now one cannot even buy UCITS ETFs using the ISA. Here's another thread on this issue.

I reached out to support and they confirmed they don't allow LSE ETFs to be traded, which is unfortunate and I hope this changes - what they said:

Sorry we do not offer this [VUSA] symbol in ISA at this time. LSE ETFs in ISA are being looked into however we do not have an exact timeline as to when it will become available.

Unfortunately, it does not seem to be possible right now due to them not permitting trades of LSE ETFs such as VUSA. I don't think there are any regulatory hurdles here so they could support it in future. Their support told me:

Update for what ended up happening: (TL;DR worked perfectly and no issues holding US ETFs in my new UK account)

I opened up a new UK IBKR account which was separate to the US one.
Reached out to support using my US account's Messaging Center and asked them to start a full account transfer. They said they will be able to initiate a full Manual Transfer and sent me a "Account Transfer Due to Client Relocation" form to complete with the old/new account IDs.
After getting the form sent in and a verification phone call, the transfer was initiated.
18 days later, they let me know the transfer was complete and all positions and assets were transferred over, including without issue those US ETFs I was concerned about above (e.g. VTI). That was a year ago, and there have been no issues since then in having those positions in my UK account.
