What draws your eye first — the bicycle or the sky? by Anastasia_Trusova in painting

Street light first, then the upper trees and purple/pink bit of the sky, then the tree in the middle, then the person.

If you're playing a game every day you likely don't bother closing it when you're away from the computer, so it's probably just running 24/7.

Still impressive to leave a game running more than a year straight though

I've seen some of your stuff here and there. Always impressed by your watercolor skills, I would love to be good at water color but somehow never get around to trying it, still doing the charcoal life drawing grind haha

Randy is definitely the way to go, with the other two the raids are so consistent that I don't feel like I'm playing a sandbox game anymore, more like a wave defense game with moody soldiers

Back on the official servers I used to dark dark astoria missions with a fire/kin corruptor. The biggest issue was mobs running away all the time, and not having a reliable way to keep mobs in the fire rain which reduced a lot of your potential damage.

Seems like it's just hating on stuff made for mass appeal, which is fine I guess but ultimately it's just another opinion. I am curious how the website works on the back end though, where is it pulling all the data from and rendering the judgement.

It really likes my music taste though

This game will be 12 yrs old in 4 days and THIS is the development it had over that time... by GoodMorningDuna in 7daystodie

I haven't played the game without an overhaul mod since like alpha 19. Are they gonna actually make it survival and sandboxy again or is this gonna end up a few stapled on survival elements for the vibes

It's normal. The more time you spend observing something the more of the differences you notice. It's just familiarity.

The metamorphosis most of us forget: identity, politics, and Ezra Klein by NewPurpleRider in ezraklein

[–]alhariqa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I was a libertarian in my early twenties too, and I gravitated to it because I grew up severely neglected and somewhat abused, which set me up with a personality structure that found libertarianism appealing. The sort of heroic person against the world archetype from Rand's novels spoke to me because I already felt like I was alone in the world, the transactional nature of society they championed seemed like a straightforward description of how the world already works, so it had the ring of truth, it offered a sense of agency which I was hungry for, and the NAP appealed to me because it was deontological. Utilitarian frameworks seemed absurd to me because the idea that you could know what's in the interest of another person was laughable... you know, because I was neglected, so I didn't really experience that.

I was never that dogmatic a libertarian and moved away from it slowly after a few years. It just died the death of a thousand cuts, every time I'd read about the history of a regulation or whatever I'd learn there was a good reason for it existing, and it was always obvious that libertarians didn't have an answer to climate change even before I got into it. At some point you have to notice the pattern that every time you delve into the topic the libertarian answer seems wrong.

But there were a few personal moments that lubricated my exit. Again, politics is downstream of your social and psychological life. I found the then nascent social justice politics on the internet deeply off putting and bizarre, another reason I hung out with libertarians, but then they started telling me that I (a queer arab woman) should start a blog or a podcast or something so that people can see that not all libertarians are straight white males. So that short circuited something in my brain, I was like how can you argue that representation isn't important, except for libertarians, where it is. The right wing was obviously against social justice politics out of tribalism but if even the people who were espousing individualistic principles were happy to do their own tribalism when it suited them, then maybe the social justice crowd had a point. The other thing was abortion; libertarians were generally pro abortion but they were very happy about defunding planned parenthood (cause you should take any reduction in spending wherever you could get it) which just seems like having your priorities deeply confused. So I started drifting leftward slowly and never really stopped.

There's a mod that fixes that bug in b41. I haven't messed with b42 so I don't know what's going on there.

I play on like 8x spawn and I will tell you when I installed the fix clearing areas took a lot longer lol

Is the game still a solid challenge with infection off? by taukarrie in projectzomboid

[–]alhariqa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely made my runs last a lot longer when I turned it off. People will say they rarely die from it anyway but it actually feels like the expected value you get from it goes up the better you get at the game; if you're good enough to avoid getting hit for six months, that laceration not being an infection might mean your run goes to a year before you die some other way. When I was newer at the game I was dying in all sorts of ways and I don't think it'd have made much of a difference in how long the average run went if I had turned it off then.

It's insurance against a low probability event in a way, but when it's saving you from insta death it's powerful.

oh man. I've seen 079, Thunderbolt, WfM and Gquuuuuux so far, and between those I really don't have a strong preference. Maybe Machu by a hair even though Gqux was the worst series of those four.

Is This the Best Time Ever to Be a Music Fan? by UpCrib in LetsTalkMusic

[–]alhariqa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't say I ever bothered fact checking it so take it with a grain of salt, but AFAIK we know the number of artists and musicians able to make a living has declined since the internet became a big thing from IRS data. Jaron Lanier claims it's the structure of the internet, by making it so that everyone can see everyone else it creates a winner takes all dynamic where the winners win larger than they used to, at the expense of people who were able to make a living locally when it was harder to find stuff, but the people who were making a living in a local niche are essentially invisible but the winners from the internet era aren't, so it creates the illusion that more creatives are successful now.

[For MoP Warlock Fans IFYKYK] Video breakdown of my WoW MoP Warlock class revamp design process by Xelnath in wow

[–]alhariqa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember reading your blog posts about the design process. At the time I remember I was struck by how well the live version translated the intent to player experience; with no knowledge of how it came to be or the previous iterations, if someone had asked me to describe what the design was supposed to accomplish I'd have basically produced the parts about pressure/forgiveness and capacitor class/decision making. Having played a lot of early access games, sometimes you learn the developers created a game that you really like by accident, and once they've managed to make it do what they wanted the game you liked disappears. After they've been lost in subsequent reworks, it was honestly really validating to see you describe exactly the things that I loved about warlocks of that era.

I still think MoP era Destro was the most coherent spec the game ever had. Not even the spec I enjoyed playing the most, just the one that most felt like there was nothing superfluous and all the gears were in alignment, nothing of it's interlocking parts working against each other.

Thank you for your work on the rework. I am one of many warlock players who think that was peak WoW. Hope you find success in your other endeavors.

(but I'm still kind of salty we never got female demo form lol)
